Review summary

The highlights were Vancouver a wonderful city; the Hubbard Glacier and the seaplane over the 5 glaciers in Juneau. Otherwise the ship and the ports were disappointing overall. Would not cruise on the Infinity or Celebrity ships of this age due to "wear and tear" again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth and fast!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Not enough servings of quality greens (broccoli and spinach) on buffet. Would prefer more healthy variety choices.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Average.

Entertainment

Did not see a show.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Mostly okay with a few exceptions. Several bartenders were rude. One of the aft bartenders was annoyed we asked for bottles of Evian Water rather than the other option even though we had the premium water package which included Evian. The main pasta chef refused to replenish the ingredients when they were no longer available saying "he had a long day."

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is clean but out-dated and in need of regular maintenance. For example, we were on the Infinity in 2/2015 for the Carnavale Cruise to South America and the facilities available to Aquaclass were disgraceful. I was told there were no keys available for the lockers as they were broker. I was asked to give my clothes to my companion for her to take to her locker. When a key became available the key did not work on the locker assigned but worked on another. The shower facilities are in need of a total red. The dispensers for shampoo and conditioner have none of these but are broken and fall apart and drop to the shower floor when used. When I pointed this out to the Spa personnel they did not seem to have any idea of the condition of the Mens Locker and facilities which I found hard to believe because these facilities were not much better when I was on the ship 2 1/3 years ago. Generally speaking the carpets are dirty and worn around the ship. The windows around the ship were dirty upon embarkation and some were in the process of being cleaned. The letters for the ship's name, Celebrity Infinity, near the bow had fallen off for Infinity and were hand painted on instead.

Cabin / Stateroom

Some of the Aquaclass amenities have been cut back. Aquaclass used to have hors d'oeuvres but now only apples or possible a peach or pear. You use to get a gift of binoculars or even a celebrity bag or businesscard holder but not any longer. We had a more than our share of issues related to maintenance. Day one the AC did not work. Day 2 the toilet did not flush. It was "repaired" but the problem reoccured again which required the flush button to be replaced. The next issue was the heater which had to be addressed while we were in Alaska.

Ship tip

I would not go on this ship again. It was a disappointment.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

I do not see any reason to go to Icy Strait Point. The town of Hoonah is dilapidated and run down. If you look up the demographic and crime statistics you would stay away. It is clearly a stop for the ship not the passengers. It has a zip line which is pitched as the longest in the world. Some of the other animal tours may have been great but as a location I would avoid it. Juneau and Ketchikan were much better but were very commercial. The seaplane tour in Juneau over 5 glaciers was awesome as was our visit to the Hubbard Glacier. Creek Street in Ketchikan was original and interesting but not enough to warrant a stop in my view.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Nothing worth while unless you want to go to Alaska for a zipline. Took the bus to Hoonah which is a dump and dangerous in my opinion given their crime statistics and demography.

Juneau, Alaska

2 out of 5
The seaplane glacier tour made up for the commercialism of the town although Creek Street was original but not enough to justify this port.

Ketchikan, Alaska

2 out of 5
Ketchican was just another commercial stop without much interest.

Disembarkation

Smooth and easy.

Gosh. I'm doing those very ports next week and am booked on the Infinity for the Panama Canal next October. Most people love the ports in Alaska and also the Infinity. I guess a cruise vacation is what you make it.
