Mixed Review

Sail Date: February 14, 2016

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

While there were many impressive aspects, and our primary concern of safety was met, we felt there were areas that could have fairly easily added another star to the rating.

Cabin / Stateroom
The crew were excellent, but while probably clean, the bathroom always smelled moldy. Removing service items days before the end of the cruise seemed cheap.
Embarkation and Disembarkation
The reservation and ticketing were extremely frustrating. We never were able to open the documents file, after calls, it was emailed to a travel agent who did not forward it. The luggage tags had to be sent USPS and barely made it. I was given totally incorrect information about basic things such as availability of parkas. In 2016 web site design and communication should be a given. The inflexibility of embarkation/disembarkation made our travel days/nites over 24 hours long.
Ship Quality
The ship for having been recently updated seemed tired and a bit worn.
Destinations and Excursions
We felt the guides were well informed and spoke excellent English. The restroom facilities were poor or totally lacking even given the remoteness of some destinations
Onboard Activities
The entertainment was very mixed. The Beyond the Podium speakers especially Milos and Mickeylive. The band was great, the cast had talent but the productions were poor, the sound was too loud and not balanced. We enjoyed all the singers and musicians especially the 3 Tenors.
Service and Staff
Food and Dining
We appreciate very much the staff's willingness to meet our dietary needs.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
We enjoyed the excursion to the winery, the guide was great, but the destination seemed a bit tired.
Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina
Cruise Cape Horn
The sunrise over Cape Horn was spectacular.
Cruise Schollart Channel, Antarctica
Cruise Paradise Harbor, Antarctica
Cruise Gerlache Strait
Cruise Elephant Island, Shetland Islands
Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
The trip to the sheep farm was an excellent chance to really meet the people and understand their way of life. The weather was horrid, but they made us feel comfortable in spite of everything.
Puerto Madryn, Argentina
We don't question the need for safety, but it was our only excursion to see penguins and we missed it.
Montevideo, Uruguay

For a trip this challenging, the level of information we received beforehand was inadequate and sometimes even incorrect.
