Review summary
The Galaxy is in decent condition. She is showing her age after 11 years of service, but most of it is minor things that did not affect our cruise (i.e. - deck needing refinishing or chairs with fabric worn spots). While the majority of our cruise was smooth, there were some staffing inadequacies we encountered. One was our dining room staff, which was not up to snuff from our prior experiences. Our glasses would sit empty for 10 or 15 minutes after we asked for refills, the food would come out lukewarm or the waiter would forget items. I believe that the service sets the tone for the cruise and with the dining room staff, it set an unimpressive tone for our week cruise. The ports were great (St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, Grenada and St. Thomas). We did most ports on our own. The few times we used Celebrity's tours, we were disappointed. One other problem we encountered was Celebrity's lack of communication. The end of cruise shore excursions were cancelled, but we did not receive notice until we went to the shore excursion desk to ask about changing the excursion to another tour. Since the excursions were cancelled, we decided to use the luggage valet service offered. This was $20 a person. Our whole group signed up for it and on the last night my cabin received our airline boarding passes, except that I received tickets for a person other than my husband. On our trip to guest services, we found out that the cruise line only received boarding passes for half our group. No notice was given to our group members that they would not be receiving their boarding passes and could not use the luggage service. We only found out when we went to guest services to find out about the mistake on our boarding passes. The lack of communication was quite frustrating. These last few gaffes left a sour note on the end of the cruise. We have cruised Celebrity several times and the experience we had on this cruise was not the quality of other Celebrity boats we have been on.Ship experiences
