Review summary

This was our first Celebrity Cruise, and I'm sure it won't be our last. There were lots of locations around the ship where you could sit, relax, enjoy the scenery or take a nap! The staff were very courteous, friendly, and would go out of their way to fulfill your wishes and make your vacation a relaxing and memorable experience.

Embarkation

Embarkation was very fast and efficient. They used facial recognition. We arrived at the port at about noon and we were on the ship within 30 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We were Aqua Class, so we ate in Blu several times for dinner and breakfast. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice. We had looked at the menu on the Celebrity app one evening and it indicated there would be frog legs. When we got to the restaurant, we learned that the menu online was incorrect. We were a little disappointed, but that didn't last long. We asked if it would be possible to get French Onion Soup and Escargot which were not listed on their menu, and their reply was "Of Course! You can have that every evening if you wish!" It was delicious! We also had several other special requests at other times. We also ate at Qsine, Murano, and Sushi on 5. Qsine was fun with the animated chefs and the food was good. I order a steak medium and it was more medium well when it arrived. When the manager came by to check on us and our food, he very quickly removed my plate and returned with a perfectly cooked steak! Murano was my favorite specialty restaurant. I can't say enough about the food, atmosphere, and service. It was exceptional! We weren't as excited about Sushi on 5. The service was slow and the sushi was good. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch a few times. There is a good variety of food. The buffet is crowded most of the time. We signed up for the Chef's Ultimate BBQ which was scheduled to be outside on the Veranda. Unfortunately, the weather was bad, it was raining and windy, so they had to move it inside at the last minute. Of course the atmosphere was not great, and we were disappointed in the food. I would not sign up for this event again.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We signed up for the glass blowing class. Such fun!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
They had a comedian several times. Two large productions with singers, dancers, and acrobats. Musicians that performed around the ship.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service we received was in many cases "exceptional" and deserving of additional tips!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was well maintained. There were a number of areas on the ship

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was excellent! It was located about two doors down from the Spa Relaxation Room, and my husband enjoyed this immensely! The room was quiet and comfortable. The shower had body sprays. There were yoga mats in the closet, as well as bath robes and shoes. There were also umbrellas. The cabinets under the sink in the bath area were very shallow. There were a few drawers in the main cabin, but none in the closet, only hanging racks. There were only two outlets at the desk and none by the bed, and one in the bathroom area. Not very convenient if you are having to charge your phone and needing to use it as your clock by the bed. There are two hooks in the bath area and two in the main cabin area. The television had live TV channels and Movies on Demand. The TV channels included HGTV, Food Network, Fox News, CNBC, BBC, ESPN, ESPN2. Movies on Demand had several free options.

Ship tip

Bring extra magnet hooks, a portable clock, a shoe bag for over the door (great for shoes and cosmetics).

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

We took a Lyft to the BB&T Center and attended a concert the evening before our cruise.

Key West, Florida

4 out of 5
We walked around town, visited the butterfly conservatory and enjoyed a slice of key lime pie at Kermits. Unfortunately it was Sunday and Garbo's (a great place to eat) was closed. We had downloaded the map for the free Duval Loop bus and did ride it once (it was very crowded).

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
We had been to Costa Maya before and decided to just walk around the shops a bit looking for some Talavera. Didn't find what I was looking for and was disappointed.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Our excursion that we had signed up for was cancelled due to lack of interest. Because of the weather a lot of the other excursions was also cancelled and many people elected not to go into Cozumel.

George Town, Grand Cayman

4 out of 5
The seas were a little rough in the Grand Cayman and the port was closed. Capt Tasos arranged for our ship to go to a different port. I was amazed at how quickly the tour operators and Celebrity Equinox was able to adjust to the change of location! We were tendered into the port. Our excursion was a tour of the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Garden, a tour of Pedro St. James and afternoon tea. We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. The botanical garden was very beautiful and interesting. The tour of the Pedro St. James house was interesting, and I enjoyed hearing our guide (was a descendant of the family) and the movie was good. After our tour we were served tea and cake under tents on the lawn.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had signed up for a late Disembarkation (9:00 a.m.) and it took very few minutes to get off the ship, find our luggage and get to our shuttle.
