Review summary

Went on this cruise because we got a good deal. Had heard great things about this ship, but it didn't live up to its reputation. We had a good cruise, nothing special. But, I have to say, the Equinox staff crew are exceptional! If you can find a good deal, it's probably worth it, but there are much better ships you can sail on that probably will be more enjoyable.

New terminal at pier 25 is amazing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
We were impressed with the Oceanview Cafe; much better than RCCL's Windjammer. Being Suite guests, we had the option to dine in Luminae. Breakfast was acceptable, but dinner menu's were horrible. We chose to dine in with room service for several meals. At Crate and Social, it took 30-60 minutes to get one order of wings. We waited for 75 minutes and our order was incorrect ... not good. Tuscan Grill was a big disappointment, waiting 20 minutes for coffee after our meal. This was one venue were the service was disappointing. With that said, we did find the service from all the dining staff to be above average.

Onboard Activities

Silent disco was amazing on this ship. Very active agenda for those who wanted to partcipate.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Some of the best musicians we've seen on any cruise, especially at Ensemble on 5 and the Sunset Bar. Kudos to Mike Redden, the Miacats, and jazz bands. The orchestra pianist was amazing and they even had him playing in the Retreat Lounge.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our butler was attentive, but didn't seem to have his act together. Same can be said for the room attendant. When we arrived, there was no hand soap in the bathroom, the cabin was dusty, and the balcony looked like it had not been cleaned in weeks with paper wrappers on the balcony floor and food stain. The balcony furniture was dirty. Bar staff was great! We really enjoyed Donavan and Rovena and Ensemble on 5.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Equinox has a dated design and is consistent with ships built at the same time. Good flow of people. The new Retreat on Deck 16 was a great addition for suites guests.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabin needed a deep cleaning including the balcony. New carpet, but the furniture was worn and needed replacing. Only two electrical outlets both by the desk. Not easy to charge phones, iPads, computers at the same time.

Ship tip

This won't be the highest quality of ship you can find for the price range, but the staff and crew are some of the best we've seen.

Same stop as usual.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Nic place, but the tender routine can eat away at time. Took us over 40 minutes to get to shore from the ship.

Agree that the Equinox staff were amazing. What ship would you recommend as being the best all-round experience? Looking for our next cruise of course!

Wasn’t the ship just refurbished in June?

We are booked March 2021 but I hear she is going to dry dock for a make over in 2020 so maybe she will be in better shape for our cruise.

Went on her back in September. Couldn’t agree more with this review. We also went because it was the best deal we could find for a 7 night cruise. Equinox is great, but not as much as others lead us to believe. If it wasn’t for the crew, it would’ve been a major drag
