Review summary

We cruise annually just before school starts. While this wasn't our favorite cruise there was very little to complain about. We all had a good time and will probably cruise Celebrity again. Simply due to proximity and timing, our next cruise will be on NCL Getaway at Spring Break. The Getaway was our favorite ship before Equinox and we are a little nervous to see if it holds up to our new and higher expectations.

Embarkation

Celebrity is in a new terminal and it is super nice. It wasn't quite as fast as last year but that is probably just them needing to work out the new process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The Oceanview Cafe is fine. It is about as nice as you can expect for buffet food but it is still buffet food. The Mast Grill wasn't as good this year as last year. The hamburgers were soggy in the middle but the veggie burgers were great. The main dining room was delicious every night. Sushi on 5 was awesome and not too expensive. We had 3 miso soups, edamame, and 2 rolls for 35 dollars. My husband really loved the Tuscan Grill. The view was worth the money, but not the food (in my opinion).

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Celebrity isn't known for "activities" like rock climbing, or surfing at sea. That is okay with us. Each afternoon the pool got really loud with crew vs guests vollyball. I would have avoided that all together. The gym was good as was the spa. I wish the kids club had either better communication about activities and/or kept longer hours. Most of the time the club is open for only 2 hours at a time. By the time you drop your kid off, walk back to whatever you want to do and get settled in, it is time to pick them up again.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Still the biggest disappointment of the cruise. Just like last year, the shows just aren't great. Don't get me wrong, the TALENT is fantastic but the shows themselves are lacking. Also, it was very disappointing that the shows this year were the same as last year on 3 of the nights.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
As stated earlier, the kids club is only open for like 2 hours at a time and that makes it hard to go and do anything w/o the kids because there just isn't time. Also, the schedule is a little confusing as to what is going on on each day. I would have appreciated if the app had an option to look up kids activities on their own and not part of general entertainment. Otherwise, when our 8 year old went to the club, he always had a great time!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Overall the crew, waiters, stewards, bar staff etc were awesome. Everyone seemed a little bit more uptight this year than last year but that probably has to do with something internal that has changed and not actually their personalities or anything.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Celebrity and Disney have the cleanest ships at sea!

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We were actually in 9366 (upgraded after booking) and please be advised THE DECK PLAN IS NOT CORRECT! If you think you are getting an angled balcony or a larger balcony and you are relying on the pictures to help make your decision DO NOT DO IT! I talked to Celebrity yesterday and she said the deck plans are just guides and not accurate. Otherwise, it is a traditional stateroom with very little space to move around. 154sqft and 3 people is tight. But they are always tight. The beds were comfy and the room is laid out as well as a stateroom can be.

Ship tip

This is not a go go go go type of cruise. Plan on playing cards, watching movies on the lawn and lounging in the solarium.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

3 out of 5
The port time for us was 3:30-11pm and that just doesn't work with a child in tow. We did get off the ship and walked around a little bit. It was hot.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
We have been here so many times we could spit. That being said, we took a sailing/snorkeling trip with The Jester and it was great! Jermaine was our cab driver and he was a good story teller and picked us up and dropped us off w/o any issues.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

4 out of 5
We were supposed to go on an excursion but due to miscommunication we got left at the dock. We booked outside the cruise. By the time we realized we had been left we were hot and hungry so we went back to the boat to get on wifi. The port is not very active in Tortola yet. They are still recovering from the hurricanes 2 years ago.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Smoothest disembarkation ever. Did you know they use facial recognition to skip the customs lines?! It was great!
