Review summary

For all the reasons given above our experience on the Equinox was excellent. This was our second cruise on this ship in 2 years because we enjoyed so much the first time. We even book another cruise, onboard, for next year on the Celebrity Reflection because we enjoy Celebrity's hospitality.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We had Concierge class which normally expedites embarkation but I had difficulty getting the passes for everyone in our party completely checked in on the Celebrity Site, so it took a little longer to get checked in at the pier.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate all our meals in the main dining room (Silhouette) and did not attend a specialty restaurant. The food was excellent always, the wait staff was friendly and courteous. We had select (open) dining which gave us the flexibility to dine when we wanted. The Oceanview Café (cafeteria) was also great and afforded quite a variety of foods for breakfast and lunch. I also recommend the Mast Grill if you just want a burger and fries.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We used the pool and sun decks on sea days which were sometimes a bit crowded but pretty good on the whole. We didn't use the fitness center or spa this trip.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great shows in the Equinox theatre. A couple of shows incorporated singers, dancers and acrobats. Excellent comedian! The only disappointment was that we'd seen the show "Topper" last year on the Equinox.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The entire staff was courteous and friendly all over the ship. They always had a friendly smile and "hello" whenever we passed them. Dining waiters were excellent and provided us with anything we needed at dinner. Our room attendant was also excellent and kept our room clean and spotless. Our Captain was Kate McCue who was very available to passengers and would be seen walking the about the ship almost daily. Her morning announcements were fun and informative. I hear she's moving to the Edge.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was extremely clean. If I saw an empty glass sitting anywhere, it was gone in less than five minutes. The décor, in my estimation, was a little dated and some of the carpets in certain areas looked worn. This was our second time on the Equinox and we had a little different perspective this trip.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The room was very clean and we loved the balcony. It was a bit crowded with a third passenger, even though the cabin was rated for 4 passengers.

Ship tip

Be sure and check in online. Get some clear luggage tag sleeves(Amazon) for your printed luggage tags.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
Embarkation only...no excursion. If arriving the day before, pick a hotel with shuttle service to the port, it is a long way to the terminal.

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
Lots of shopping in the port area. We took a nature kayak tour which was a lot of fun.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
We did river tubing at the Seven Colors lagoon. A little disappointing that the excursion was about an hour an a half ride each way from the ship. Shopping was mostly in the port area.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Our excursion was a trip to a local resort where we learned to make margaritas, salsas and had salsa dance lessons. The instructor , Pita, was cute and a lot of fun. We tried shopping outside the port and found the sales people overly aggressive, especially the jewelry store so we finished up shopping in the port.

George Town, Grand Cayman

4 out of 5
Our excursion in this port was a Segway tour of Seven Mile beach, which was a little disappointing because, after a quick lesson on operating our Segway we were led through busy streets ultimately ending at a crowned beach resort. We had a quick photo op and then went back through traffic to their shop. We probably spent about 10 min on the beach.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast and efficient. We were able to be reunited with our luggage easily.
