Review summary

Though a nice itinerary, we did not visit one port due to weather.

Embarkation

Easy embarkation at the Port of Miami. Courtious staff from security to the checkin agent.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We were in an Aqua Class balcony room so we ate at Blu and the Oceanview buffett. The food was excellent in both places as was the service. In Blu, the waiters were all friendly, funny and attentive. In the Oceanview, the food was very good with a number of choices. Certain choices (omelettes for breakfast, Mexican and Indian for lunch and dinner) were always there where others rotated. For those that need/prefer it, there were Gluten free and vegetarian options.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I used the Fitness center daily. Well outfitted and open 24 hours. I am an early riser so always got my choice of equipment. By 7am, it was getting crowded, by 8am there were people waiting on machines. I did not attend any classes. The only other activity I attended was the Veterans gathering on the first Sea Day.

Entertainment

I did not attend any entertainment programs

Children's Programs

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward, Bryan, was outstanding. He made sure everything we needed was provided. All of the bartenders, wait staff and crew members were friendly.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I prefer the smaller ships and Equinox has 2850 passengers max. We were on the final cruise prior to drydock (she was going to Spain for a refit on May 4th) but the ship did not appear overly worn. All of the carpets and public spaces were in great shape and our cabin was in good condition.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin 1648, 194 sq ft, category A2. Nice size for a 7 day cruise. Typical balcony, easy to walk around the bed (unlike some cabins where there is very little room at the foot of the bed). The cabin was clean and everything worked though certain areas were worn (desk top, sink, drawers). I expect this will be completely different since the ship will be in dry dock for a refit.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
We live in Fort Lauderdale and took a rideshare to the ship

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
No excursion. Just went for a walk and some light shopping

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
Great little port with lots of shopping, beaches and tours. It was a long walk from the ship to the shopping area but shared rides were inexpensive ($4/person) to town though traffic was horrible. There were many excursions offered (sailing, snorkeling, sightseeing, beaches and shopping) through the ship or through tour companies at the port.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic Did not visit port

Due to bad weather, the Captain elected to go to Semaná instead. Nice port but extremely limited shopping and tours. Tender port.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
No excursion. Typical port, many hustlers at the port entrance/exit.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Port of Miami, easy exit from the ship. Waited about 45 min for our bags though, they were calling numbers to disembark without having put out the bags. Customs/Immigration was easy, no forms required. FYI, Global Entry is NOT available at this time.
