Review summary

This was a 12-day Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to ports in France, Italy, Croatia, and Montenegro. A wonderful itinerary (though port intensive). We took a few days pre and post trip to stay in Barcelona and enjoy this thoroughly remarkable city. The Celebrity Equinox is a very comfortable and entertaining ship. Due to the numerous ports of call and our late-dinner seating, we did not get to take advantage of everything the ship had to offer (mostly the entertainment in the theater). However, the entertainment in the lounges, at poolside, and in the main foyer was outstanding. Our balacony cabin was located forward on deck 8 and was quite comfortable. We did enjoy returning from an excursion and relaxing out on the balacony before dinner. Storage was quite adequate. The staff throughout the ship were very friendly and helpful. We did buy the Specialty restaurant 3-package. While we thoroughly enjoyed Muranos and the Tuscan Grill, the Asian Silk Harvest restaurant was a little disappointing. Also, I did not like the fact that when you purchase the 3-dinner package, Celebrity requires you to go to all 3 restaurants. Nevertheless, the overall cruise experience was totally enjoyable. Dubrovnik and Kotor were extra surprise treats that are very unique and interesting. We did all of our excursions privately and were able to add people from the Cruise Critic Roll Call board to make the excursions less expensive. I would give special recognition to Aldo of Aldo's Limos for a great tour of the Amalfi coast. He really puts his heart, soul, and knowledge of the area into his tours (and only 55 euros per person with 8 in his new MB van). Also, if you have been to Rome, think about a tour to Orvieto and one or two other small Umbria towns. From Villafranche, Eze and Monaco are recommended, but also try to make a stop in St. Paul de Vence, a wonderful little town of art galleries and cafes.

Ship tip

Be sure to go to the special brunch in the main dinning room on the second to last day of the cruise. It is not always publicized, but ask your head waiter about this wonderful event.
