The Edge: Positioning Cruise London to Rome by Vuselton

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

Celebrity is my favorite cruise line. Did not disappoint. Had a great time. The number of days at sea helped decompress from reality and not on the go all the time. Nice balance.

Great ship. Great food. Great entertainment. Great service. Too bad doesn't have Port Canaveral as an embarkation port.

Disappointed by Tomm65

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I apologize in advance for the overly detailed review. At the cruise critic event on board, the Captain requested that we be specific on issue we found with the ship. Also, we are loyal Royal/Celebrity cruisers with over 30 Cruises and we just want to insure other cruisers are informed before selecting the Edge. Embarkation: Very quick and easy. You could drop bags in the room as soon as on board. Infinite balcony Stateroom: Our first infinite balcony room on deck 6 forward had a view of about 20’ of blue painted steel. We had to argue with guest services to have our room changed to a new room. Changed to a deck 9 Infinity Balcony. The room was nice except the “balcony” was useless. This should have been called an ocean view with opening window. We liked the extra space but was not a balcony. When the window was open, the room instantly filled with humidity and the air conditioning turned off. There were times in port when the window would not open. When sleeping at night, other cabins close by would open or close the windows made so much noise it would wake you up. The fake doors to the balcony would barely close, get in the way and did nothing to stop the room overheating. Storage in the room was strange. The new room layout Royal uses on Symphony, Harmony and Anthem is awesome. This is a step back. Only room for about a foot of hanging items without hitting an immovable bar. Lots of very small cubbies that could not fit much. Designers went for look and not function. The bathrooms on the ship were the largest and best laid out on any ship. Unfortunately, the shower did not drain and flooded the bathroom because the perimeter drain was tied to the shower drain. Also, the spray nozzle in the shower was broken so the shower head would not stay in place. This is not what we would expect for a new premium ship. An odd annoyance was no indicator to put on the door to let the attendant know you were not in the room. They had to knock to see if the room was open to make up. Also, no towel animals. Dining: Ocean view Café was excellent. We did not specialty restaurants only because we liked or fixed seating table. The dining on the ship was a real disappointment since we did not rotate restaurants we were limited to the same food menu. I asked about prime rib or beef tenderloin but was told we can only get this if we leave our table and go to another restaurant. We ended up eating the same meals almost every night. Most nights our server steered us away from at least three dishes that other diners complained about. Food was mediocre at best. In the past, Celebrity food was a step up from Royal but this was a step down. Pool Area: We again were subject to the ‘new’ cruise experience were the only shade on the pool deck was located in the Cabana area that had to be paid for. The design of the hot tubs were ridiculous. These were located in full sun two stories up from the pool deck. In order to get to these, you had to walk up two flights of stairs or go to the forward elevators. Once of the two sets of stairs was through the smoking area. The music played at the pool was bizarre. For some reason, there was a jazz fusion band playing rather than a Caribbean band. Another strange item was serving glass bottles of beer to people in the pool. Retreat Area: One of the most annoying things about the ship was the Retreat area. All front views out of the ship were cut off unless you were in a suite. You cannot take the forward elevators up to deck 15 or 16. You must get off at 14 and walk up the stairs. On other Celebrity ships, this area is a lounge open to all. Ironically, we spoke to many Suite guests who complained of no shade in the retreat area as well. I get the need for additional revenue but to cut off over half of decks 15 and 16 is a bit much. Public Spaces: The Magic Carpet was nice. The Destination Gateway is a great idea. This ship was nice but not up to Latest Royal levels. The layout of all seating in the public spaces were all very low and very uncomfortable. The rooftop garden had awkward wooden seat that you could not sit on and cushioned seats with what looked like oil stains. The normally nice sunset bar had no shade and uncomfortable seating again which ruined the experience. Eden need to be repurposed. Very bizarre. Crew: Best crew we have experienced. Everyone we encountered were attentive, friendly and polite. Casino: Non Smoking which was awesome! Entertainment: The guest entertainers were great except when the played in the rooftop garden as it was blazingly hot with no shade and uncomfortable seats. The onboard entertainers, though talented, were a real letdown. Why would you put a jazz fusion band on the pool deck rather than a Caribbean band?? The on board shows were bizarre and was embarrassing to watch so many people walk out. Bingo was replaced with Deal or No deal where we give $25 to the cruise line and one person in the room wins $100? How is that fair? There were a few other that won a $10 match casino play! The best show was the Captain Dimitriue’s talk. Shops on Board: The stores were overpriced, no post cards of the ship, no Christmas ornaments of the ship, and no reasonably priced tee shirts. I have never had a hard time spending my on board credit and basically wasted it to use it up. The shop workers asked us to put this in our review as they are hurt by poor sales due to lack of merchandise. Debarkation: Customs and emigration had the facial recognition terminals which was a breeze. Until we got to our luggage. We stood and stared at our bags forever 15 minutes but were not allowed to touch them. Very disorganized luggage handling. They need to stop over at the royal terminal next door to see how it is done. To sum up, we paid a premium for this cruise in anticipation of the best cruise ever. It turned out to be the worst. I have written this review in the hope that this class of ship can be turned around. We love sailing Royal and Celebrity but will not be back to this Class without major changes.

Interesting but not much different Cruise by mprev230

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Although we enjoyed the cruise, I think that there may have been a few too many minuses for us to be excited about it. From the so-so offerings in the main dining rooms, to the inability to cook a steak medium rare, and the overuse of garlic and butter (even in the scrambled eggs!). I'd have to rate the food in the lower category of experiences I've had on other ships. The ports were good, the staff were incredible, and the ship handled the rough seas with ease. All in all I would not rule out another cruise on the Edge, but probably not for another couple of years.

Great Family vacation by TravelB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a family vacation with our sons and their wives along with our one year old grandson. There were no activities for toddlers less than three years. The ship is excellent. The restaurants were very good. The shows were different and hard to watch. We would still recommend taking the ship again.

nice trip, but would not book the Edge again, by sandymagee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Western

90 percent of the people were 65+, and we have been on ships with older people and have had a much better time. I just am not sure how Celebrity got so many things wrong with this ship. Fortunately my kids did not sail with us, I think they would have been bored.

Great Cruise but Definitely a Different Experience than Normal by Mwolczak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was new, interesting & definitely different than any other cruise ship I’ve been on in the past. It was still a cruise ship with th pool, buffet, theater, etc but definitely different than the standard model. There were very few outdoor spaces to enjoy if that’s your thing. No sports deck, climbing wall, golf, garden (or other such activities). There was the “rooftop garden” but the restaurant was speciality and simply BBQ (burger, wings and hardly worth it). We never saw it at night but it never seemed very full and was really a lost space in my opinion. The put out a couple of board games up there but that was it. Also the loss of bar space was missed. No wine bar, speciality bar, sunset bar inside etc. - just the one martini bar. That meant we spent most of our time at The Retreat but felt we missed a lot of th ship. There was an open air bar at the back of the ship but it was very windy and not really someplace you could sit if you were all dressed for dinner. It was more like a place to visit befor you were showered and ready to enjoy the evening so I guess you could head over there from the pool deck or after lunch time. It’s just nice to enjoy some of the bar spaces for an evening cocktail which typically needs to be inside due to the windy conditions, which are great during the day in shorts and a swimsuit but not for ladies sundresses and hair! The food was all very good, better than most ships I would say. There seemed to be less activities going on in general. There was also a focus on more high end shopping. There were none of the market type shopping venues that typically pop up in the centrum on cruise ships. Well there was really no centrum or promenade. It was just the martini bar that was the single focal point of the ship. Everything else was sectioned off so it had a very different feel. Due to that we spent most of our time at The Retreat but I can’t imagine what it would have been like were we not in a suite. Seems like you’d feel there was stuff missing. Also the shows were not bad but certainly not great. We felt like that was a point that suffered. The Eden show was strange as most people pointed out and only ran at 10pm. A lot of the activities that were offered happened very late. If your not a night owl you’ll feel like you’re missing half of what there is to do, which is us. We kept trying to stay up later and later to see the shows and events but ended up suffering in the end as we were simply exhausted everyday. I’m not sure why so much is centered on late night...........

Beautiful Ship but not what I expected by lpicc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Spent most of our time in The Retreat or the gym. I DO NOT go to the gym at home but the gym on board and the staff (Urska) made it a place you wanted to be. She was so great to work with and teach us about our health and exercise that we never do anything about at home. She even showed us things to do at home without going to the gym.

March 2019 Edge Cruise by bevjab

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Very restful, nice rooms, good food. I do think it's wrong that in order to print airline boarding passes for departure, I had to purchase 1 hour of internet time for $25.00. Celebrity could afford to have kiosks for printing boarding passes like hotels do!

Had a very nice cruise. The food in Oceanview Cafe was good and varied. Always enjoyed our breakfast and lunch. Dinner at Normandie and Cyprus was also very tasty. The ship is just beautiful with so many works of art that are jaw dropping.

Disappointed Celebrity Edge Cruise by YoRomeo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Very, very disappointed in the Celebrity Edge. Expected much more. The public areas were beautiful but all of the hype about the Infinity Cabin was not true. Entertainment was very poor. Food in the Ocean Cafe and the main dining rooms was excellent. Do not understand the concept of four main dining rooms when the food is exactly the same in every dining room. Some easy to get into and other difficult. One main dining room would be much better. Hope that they do not change their other ships to this concept.

Ship is beautiful people were great but… by lgoins295

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ship of course is beautiful being brand new… Staff excellent as always… While the Four dining choices have you waiting a little bit for your food there are more food choices in each of the dining options and the food was consistently well prepared and well presented and I personally enjoyed always having a steak as one of the every day options… :-)
