Celebrity Edge is a lovely ship, upscale from Royal Caribbean & Princess. Yet still comfortable and unpretentious. We had couples of all ages- honeymooners on up, families with adult children, families with teenagers, families with elementary aged kids, a few toddlers and even little babies! Surprisingly very few if any motorized scooters :). Will be doing another Edge Class cruise again.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We arrived at Pier 91 around 11am. My husband who is strong as an ox but has no lungs had an arranged wheel chair assist onto the ship. We were in our room dropping off our carry ons before 11:30a. Room wasn’t completely ready and of course our luggage hadn’t arrived. We then headed straight for the concierge class lunch at Cyprus.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The four main dining rooms are exceptional. We choose from the dining room exclusives every night. My husband will venture over to the onion soup - one of his 2 cruise staples- and steak one night & lobster one night. I guess the folks who aren’t adventurous eaters and pick from the standard menu every night may think the choices are repetitive -which they are. Every single dinner we had in MDR was prepared to perfection in quality, temperature, presentation (which was outstanding) and of course flavorful tastes.
Eden Restaurant

We had dinner here on my birthday. Also an outstanding dining experience. We pre booked months before, possible during Black Friday sale, can’t recall for sure. Paid $55per instead of the usual $85per. My favorite was my choice, the branzino fish, of which my mouth watered at every bite! Four of us all took a taste of each entree ordered, all outstanding. Fine service, delicious drinks. We loved sitting near the open kitchen watching the meticulous plating with tweezers to place all the design elements. Nice music from above.
Oceanview Café

This buffet is very large with incredible choices, and many fabulous changes or additions at each meal. Everything fresh, flavorful, at the correct temp and abundant. My least favorite station was the dessert station because most of those beautiful things that look like fabulous cakes are in fact gelatin type desserts, with a few exceptions. I give buffet 3 stars not for the food at all- that’s a 5. But for the experience which ruins my cruise mojo. I just don’t like the humanity, many lacking manners & common sense. We ate 1 bfast, 1 lunch & 1 late dinner there after Victoria excursion. My seating tip is go all the way to the back of the ship, where there’s an outside eating deck, but also inside tables kind of near the pizza. Takes you out of the fray a bit..
Raw on Five

Sushi is very fresh. In fact everything we ate here was delicious and fresh. The crab cake & seafood sampler tray stand out.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Solarium pool and area was great although we were confused as to why they had kids hours there when it’s adults only. There were plenty of adults & kids in the main pool much of the time although I don’t know how with the cool temps. Participated in some trivia. I don’t know if this goes here but the silent disco was a BLAST! Even my husband who didn’t want to participate had fun & was smiling throughout!
Entertainment
4 out of 5
In general, I thought the entertainment was very good. The comedian Monique Marvez was my absolute favorite, probably because we’re the same generation and she just had me in stitches! But I also LOVED Steven Barry, Irish (maybe?) singer entertainer. Wonderful! The acrobats were strong & thrilling! The Celebrity Edge dancers & singers worked very hard, but need more talent & practice. The TaylorSwift-looking female singer is the only one with natural talent. The lead male singer is awkward and painful to watch. The dancers are at the level of a high school dance team, not terrible but not at the level of professional dance entertainment. Musicians around the ship were of varying degrees of talent, with some being fabulous and some just awful, and everything in between.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All staff I had dealings with were friendly, happy & helpful -
We had different wait staff each night at a different dining venue so we didn’t make a close connection with dining room staff. All bartenders friendly and accurate. Our room attendants kept the place very clean and stocked. They were very friendly to us and twice opened our door for us when they saw us coming down the hall. Funny thing is we have no idea what their names are. One, the lead, never told us their name and the second one had a very long name we couldn’t remember. In the past and on other lines we were handed cards with their names on them. The other difference is they never once used our names once. Not that we need this, but we have been addressed by name on other lines and it’s nice.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Very clean ship and you always see people cleaning. Public restrooms are clean, usually with an attendant in it or nearby. While there’s no true Promenade Deck per se, the walking track is very nice across two levels, with two halves, one for walking and one for running. I think the ship is easy to get around after a few days. However, I do wish the ship maps by the elevators showed all the floors in cross section so you wouldn’t need to pull out your phone as much for deck plans.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was of good size made even more impressive with the infinite veranda. Added space to the room. This was our 8th cruise. All have been balcony cabins. This was our first experience with IV. Our opinion is we loved it, our favorite balcony experience so far. We used it more than we have ever used a balcony, both with the window open & closed. If weather is wet or chilly (and I would imagine also when too hot) you can still enjoy the up close views in comfort. We never closed the transparent folding doors. We did close the curtain at night. We didn’t find the mechanical noise as loud or as annoying as oothers have stated.
We had the bed near the closet, which Is better for unobstructed views out the window and the appearance of a larger room. Everything was clean and neat. An outlet/USB port at each nightstand would be ideal. It’s only at one now, which my husband used for his CPAP. There is a charging box on the dresser instead. The shower is amazing with curved glass door, as is the entire bathroom which by cruising standards is huge!
Ship tip
If your heart is set on seeing a theater show in a good seat, arrive 30 min early. 20 min early will work, seating choices won’t be as good. Also, eat in the main dining rooms at least a few times for the full cruise experience. The Edge is a gorgeous ship with so much to do and explore. Don’t miss any of it!
The free city shuttle right off the pier with stops all around Ketchikan is a great idea. However after waiting to board one around 45 min (big crowds, small buses) we grabbed a cab to heritage center for some totem pole history. From the parking lot we grabbed a free and empty trolly to Creek Street. Spent a couple hours enjoying this area. We then took the easy walk back to ship. Weather was amazing!
We stayed at Belltown Inn less than 3 miles from port 91. In spite of what is said about the location, the hotel was clean, with great staff & fabulous. Easy, safe walking to Pike & Needle….. .5 & .4 miles away respectively. After a lovely day of exploring, we picked up snacks and drinks, back at hotel by 7:30 and had a lovely picnic on the hotels rooftop lounge.
After sitting in the theater with no windows for 90 min they cancelled our small boat tour to up close and personal with glacier and arm due to too much ice. I get it. What I don’t get is by the time they released us from theater the ship was already leaving the glacier. Around 200+ people didn’t get to see the thing our cruise itinerary was named for. This situation should be handled a bit differently by the bridge the next time this happens.
Took a private city tour that included two hours at Butchart Gardens, which was a highlight of the trip! Tour went from 6p- 10p. We were in port until midnight.
Relaxing with beautiful scenery & eagles. Towards the end, we were given a real treat, either a massive pod of whales, or several pods of whales, on both sides of the ship.
We took a trolly tour around the city which taught and showed us a lot. Then we stopped at the fish hatchery - interesting with an aquarium holding lots of local sea creatures. Watch the short movie if you go. Then we stopped at the bronze whale statue for great pictures and even more totems! After trolly tour, we saw Tracy’s King Crab Shack and decided Heck Yes! Delicious experience
We waited in Raw on 5 for wheelchair assistance. We sat there over an hour by choice drinking coffee & talking with friends while listening to them call out disembarkation numbers. I swear we were never given s number. The app said our time (not number) was 7am, but the ship wasn’t cleared by 7am, not to mention the fact we had our alarm set for 7:00am wake up. Lol! We used port valet for our luggage and it was flawless! Loved it! Put it in the hallway around 10:20 the night before and collected it in Tucson. Took a cab to Museum of Flight as our plane wasn’t leaving until 6:15p. It was a perfect plan!
Thank you for your detailed review. I felt exactly the same way you did about the Edge class of ships. We went on a 10-day to Hawaii in May and it was fabulous!😀👌
