I would definitely recommend the Celebrity Eclipse for any who is handicapped and needs help due to mobility issues but does not normally use a wheelchair. Celebrity did and outstanding job and were exceptionally accomodating.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
This was the one area that could use improvement with regard to disabilities. Everything went smoothly until we attempted to go to our room with my husband in an escorted wheelchair. We waited over twenty minutes for an elevator to come to the floor we boarded on that had enough room to accommodate the wheel chair. Able bodied people were getting on the elevators after only a few minutes wait. The line needs to designate at least one elevator on embarkation day as handicapped only. Also, we used the Cruiseline to get from the Ft Lauderdale airport ot the ship. Due to delays caused by my husband's handicaps, we had to wait over an hour for the transport after finally getting to the baggage area and recovering our bags. The person who was in charge of our transportation is one of the rudest people i've ever encountered. I would never use this service again but would instead use Eagle Transportation in Miami who are incredibly helpful and made a previous trip so much easier.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Dining room staff was phenomenal, the cafe was varied and always good, with both prepared and to order items. Even though it was a full ship we never had problems with getting t;hrough the food line without long waits. All the specialty restaurants were outstanding.
Murano Restaurant
5 out of 5
We went back to this restaurant for a second night. The service and cuisine was outstanding. I highly recommend the Lobster Murano, prepared tableside. The chocolate soufle was incredible, also!
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
The Persian Garden was really relaxing, with views of the outside and usually of the port. LOVED the adults only swimming pool and hot tub area - both the pool and one of the hot tubs has a chair lift for those who are handicapped. The area is enclosed and airconditioned with lots of sunlight streaming through the glass walls and ceiling. We never had a problem finding a place to lounge or relax.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
I really enjoyed all the evening shows and I thought Sue, the activities director, was one of the best I've seen on board a ship. She planned lots of really interesting and appealing activities throughout the day and her update of the upcoming activty highlights after each evening show was really worth staying for. I LOVED her outifts and looked forward to see what she was wearing and the joke she would make about her appearance each night. I wish I had taken a picture of each outfit - I would have added a page to my photobook just with all her ensembles and the joke that went with them! Next cruise....
Children's Programs
No children with us but i did check out the facilities. this is probalby not the best ship for people with young children is you make exxtensive use of the children's probgrams on a ship
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward, Sinjah (I hope I spelled his name right!) was one of the best we've had. The dining room wait staff was personable and attentive. The entire ship staff was friendly and helpful. I have never had such an involved, helpful shopping due on any cruise and the activity director and her staff obviously thoroughly enjoy their jobs and provided fun things to do that I haven't seen on other ships, such as Silent Disco. We really like Celebrity and he staff is what will attract me back to the Eclipse in the future.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship needs a forward elevator, but other than that I found it very easy to navigate. It should be noted that this ship will do your laundry for a charge but there areI no self serve laundromats available on board.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
LOVED the location - between both banks of elevators, once I understood the layout of the ship I could avoid backtracking and just go to the elevator that would take us directly to dining, the pools, the spa or the theater. Very spacious cabin with lots of storage space, an shower with a sliding door, and a spacious sofa that could be made into a bed.
Ship tip
This ship provides wheelchair service to and from the loading areas for excursions. They were very accomodating and helpful. I have not seen this sort of service on either princess or Carnival, where you must rent a chair from an outside source if that is needed.
We actually went in and out of Fort Lauderdale, which was an easier and less expensive flight. I highly recommend staying in the Hollywood Beach area if you plan to spend extra time either before or after the cruise.
GREAT place for snorkeling! The water is a crystalline turquoise with white sandy beaches - spectacular! Lots of varied sealife in Bonaire's protected waters. The tour boat docked on the same pier as the ship. I snorkeled with SeaCow, which provided an underwater photographer. A thumb dirve with photos of participants and sealife on tour is well worth the $30.
