Review summary

This was a very nice cruise. We had a great time. There are some differences between Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, but if you know what type of vacation you are looking for, you cannot go wrong with Celebrity or Royal.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy embarkation to the cruise ship as long as you have your electronic documents and passports ready.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The specialty restaurant (Fine Cut Steakhouse) was excellent. The buffet was very good with a wide variety. The dining room was average. We have only cruised with Royal Caribbean and the expectation was very high. Celebrity dining room does not compare to the Royal Caribbean dining experience. The food was good, but portion size was small and cost extra if you asked for more. The presentation was below expectations. The dining hall layouts were smaller and more segmented than what we were use to on Royal.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Onboard activities were good. The ship was very nice and they had many activities. They had far fewer activities than we have experienced with Royal Caribbean. It is just a different atmosphere on Celebrity.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Shows and live music was outstanding.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service and Staff were excellent. They did an outstanding job with any and all requests we made.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Celebrity Apex is a very nice cruise ship with a lot of luxury. The layout is much different than Royal Caribbean ships as it is much more segmented. The ship is very clean and kept very nice.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin size is larger than we were use to on Royal Caribbean and very comfortable. Bathroom was a very good size and we didn’t feel like we were in a tight space.

Ship tip

Before going on this ship decide what you are looking for in your cruise. If you would like to just rest and relax, this is a great ship. If you are looking for a cruise that is go, go, go, this is not the ship for you.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5

San Juan, Puerto Rico

3 out of 5
The port is too far away from the sights that you want to see. We didn’t get into port until 3:30pm and did not feel comfortable walking around after dark.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
St Maarten is one of our favorite stops when we cruise. We have family that live in St Maarten and it is always a good time to visit them for a day. St. Maarten is beautiful and friendly.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
St Thomas is a beautiful port.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
This was our first visit to Puerto Plata, DR. We were very pleasantly surprised by this port. It is a fantastic port. We got off the ship and spent the day at the little beach/shopping/bar/resturant area that is in the port. This is a great area to spend a day relaxing at the pool or in a hammock or floating along the lazy river. Outstanding port.

Disembarkation

Quick and efficient
