A very good cruise overall. Celebrity is still trying get back to their pre-Covid capabilities. Staff are wonderful, but food choices are still not up to the Celebrity standard. After having done 14 Celebrity cruises, we know they can do better (which they proved with the Invergordon last minute substitution.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Speedy and seemed to be much better organised than previous sailings; but sailing was only 50% filled.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
With the dividing of the MDR into 4 restaurants, the idea was to give more diversity. The reality is that the total menu has shrunken. It is amazing that appetizer can be served hot, but main course were at best warm. I miss the MDR. Don’t bother to get the premium wine package because Celebrity no longer has wines that are “premium”.
Café Al Bacio
5 out of 5
Still the best coffee shop at sea
Oceanview Cafe
4 out of 5
As buffets go, this is very good, but choices are not as good as they have been in the past.
Tuscan Restaurant
2 out of 5
A far cry from the quality of the the Tuscan on the Solstice class ships.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Did not use the pools, but found the number of spas very strange for a ship larger than the Solstice class. Solstice class has 6 spa’s, Apex has 2.
Shore Excursions Desk
2 out of 5
Amazingly disorganized like the personnel were still learning how to do their job.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Did not use the pools, but found the number of spas very strange for a ship larger than the Solstice class. Solstice class has 6 spa’s, Apex has 2. Shows were good, but again the volume is excessively load. For some reason Celebrity AV folk do not understand how to adjust volumes so that the singers can be heard over the band. For singer Clair Maiden, this was particularly annoying as she said she is married to one of the hotel directors. She has a beautiful voice, when she is not drowned out. Pity.
Children's Programs
Do not travel with children.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
This is one place where Celebrity always seems to excel, with rare exceptions. Our room steward, Brian, was a gem. All of the staff, regardless of venue, seemed to bend over backward to be helpful, friendly and genuinely nice to be around.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Layout is good for a larger ship, elevators seem to be bigger and faster. Everything is still clean and bright, as is expected of a barely 2 year old ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We did not care for the “endless veranda” design of the stateroom, much preferring the real verandas on the Millennium and Solstice class of ships. There are plenty of drawers and closets for all of our stuff.
Ship tip
Go, enjoy and leave the cares of the world behind!
Due to bad weather in the North Sea, we did not visit the Shetland Islands, instead Celebrity substituted Invergordon, Scotland where we did an excellent tour of Inverness, Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle.
