We had a good time both on and off the ship and made the best of each moment even with the current situation. It will be hard in some ways to go back to full capacity - and prices - however we will always think cruising is the best bang for our buck! *Edit - Crusing isn’t for everyone, make sure you like a cup of tea 😜
Embarkation
5 out of 5
It was quick and easy upon arriving 10 mins before scheduled time. Sat in the Galveston terminal for 20 mins after check-in and then onboard!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Buffet was good as well as all the smaller venues around the ship like Guy’s, Blue Iguana and of course late nite Pizza. We only did the MDR one night this cruise since we did Capitano and the steakhouse which were both very good. No crowds in either specialty restaurants. Always enjoy a pot of coffee and juice in the room each morning via room service!
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Plenty of scheduled activities on board daily and made good use of them. Enjoyed the new Spider-Man in Imax on that first cool night from Texas. Weather thru the Gulf was cooler so not much pool time however the last sea day back was very hot and sunny and we spent all day in the sun dreading our return to cold and ice. No bingo or casino this time even though casino was smoke free.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Comedians were good as well as Ocean Plaza Band. The main stage shows were cancelled all week - as on many ships - but Savannah managed to keep activities going and added more comedy nights in Main theater like love and marriage etc. Spent many a night in the piano bar till closing running past the 15 limit :)
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Room steward was excellent, caring and always happy to hear about our daily adventures off the ship as all the crew has been confined to quarters even when in port.
The crew is always cleaning everything all over the ship and are glad to be doing their part.
Waiters kept our drinks coming and service was fast due to less than capacity onboard.
I suspect they cooked less so things were fresher.
Ship Quality

First time on the Vista. Different layout and very big. I did miss a grander atrium as on previous ships. There were many venues onboard however it felt like they were all smaller in size.
Rooms are still fresh and don’t show wear. Would love to have them get rid of the shower curtain like Marduk Gras next refit lol :)
Cabin / Stateroom

Standard balcony towards the aft on starboard side. Convenient to elevators and clean.
Beds were comfy and ac worked well. More electrical plugs here than other ships however still missing any close to the nightstand.
TV was surprisingly small for newer ship but aren’t there to watch anyway. Forward view camera channel had the best music mix for each day and night. Almost wish they played that mix outside on deck.
Half day excursion: Visited Daniel Johnson’s sloth hangout with monkeys and parrots. It is a great place with caring people and owners. Don’t forget to say hi and chat with Daniel’s family who is always around. Great folks. Also went to Iguana preserve which was like walking with small dinosaurs. You can really see the relation! Followed up with stop at local shopping area to relax before return to port. Walked over to the free beach next to the ship and spent 3 hours relaxing and swimming in the warm weather. Crowds were very light due to only one other ship in port. Didn’t make use of the stagnant fish foot cleaning stand near the cabana and pier area. Shipmate fans will recall previous discussions lol.
Enjoyed renting scooters for the day and exploring on our own. Was funny to see all the tour buses driving past us on the way to beach resorts like Mr. Sanchos. Stopped in many places while going all the way around the island including secluded beaches, overlooks and of course, Rasta bar for a cold drink and amazing scenery. Drove through the city and in a few neighborhoods on the one way streets and got to see what life is really like there and met many locals who were friendly.
