Review summary

The Vista and its artwork are beautiful in the public areas. I wish the stateroom bathrooms would be brought into this century though. They still use outdated colors and hard surfaces as well as a clingy shower curtain and no shave bar. The bed was hard and not in a comfy "firm" sort of way, but the steward was friendly and did a good job. Most of the staff was very pleasant and helpful. The food, service, and atmosphere in Cucina was outstanding. JiJi's atmosphere was cramped and the tables right on top of each other. The buffet is small and lacks variety.

Embarkation

Smooth and easy. We are platinum so that makes a HUGE difference.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The main dining rooms are crowded with the tables for two & four way too close together; the meals take a long time but the service is great. We only ate in the MDR once because of the noise and closeness of tables. The waiters singing and carrying on is a bit much. Cucina Del Capitano is perfect in food, service, price, noise level, and a calm, inviting atmosphere. We ate here three times for dinner. Guy's is always a winner and the Seafood Shack was better than good but they no longer serve Guy's fries so that was disappointing. The buffets were small and lacked variety and were not open when we wanted them to be.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
My husband used the gym every morning and liked the layout and availability of equipment. We did not use the other activities.

Entertainment

We do not participate in onboard activities. We go on vacation to get away from having to be extroverted and prefer to just spend our time together in quiet, laid-back settings...like reading on our balcony.

Children's Programs

We do not have kids

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward, Jomar, was friendly, efficient, and did a great job. We both got hair cuts from Raymond and he did an excellent job and was super easy to talk to and a lot of fun. The staff at Cucina Del Capitano is superb and went above and beyond to make us feel like valued members of their family.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship had several pinch points or bottle necks where it was hard to get through and constantly felt crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The bathroom is the same old poorly designed Carnival bathroom with limited storage space and a horrible shower with clingy curtain, and no shave bar to prop your leg on. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner! All they provide is shampoo and it is not so great. The cabin does have a fridge which is super nice and the layout is functional for two people, but there is not enough room in the closets and drawers for more than two people's stuff on a 7 night cruise.

Ship tip

The RootBeer floats at the coffee bar are a hidden gem!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

5 out of 5
Love this place. The port area is historic and very walkable and entertaining. Lots of stuff to see and do. You are not docked in the middle of an ugly industrial area with containers for your view.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
Mahogany Bay was an outstanding experience. You do not have to leave the port area for a great beach with safe swimming in the ocean. The snorkeling is lacking because of too many people over time killing the coral and sea life but there were quite a few pretty tropical fish to see and enjoy. It is a safe and easy snorkel for beginners or people not comfortable in the ocean. You can touch in plenty of spots and the cove is protected so the waves do not affect you.

Belize City, Belize Did not visit port

I get sick on tenders.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We love Cozumel. Go to the relatively untouched eastern side of the island for great beaches and natural beauty away from the crowds.

Disembarkation

Platinum carry off is superb. There are always the cutters, but what you gonna do but put up with it.
