Carnival Vista

Ship: Carnival Vista

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Review summary

Despite some issues we still had a wonderful time. I would return with fewer expectations. Matt was the CD. He was friendly and energetic. You saw his serious side with the disembarking problems and it was a reminder that all staff have to step up when there is an emergency.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Traffic getting to port was hectic but boarding took less than 10 minutes from start to finish.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was plentiful but MDR quality was down. Everything was cold the first night. We told our headwaiter and the food was hot going forward. This ship seems to have more problems on embarkation day than the smaller ships.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Always something to do. There's no way to see or do everything in 7 days. The skyride and ropes course were open the entire cruise.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Some of it was great and some just okay. Favorite show was Flick. Also enjoyed the game shows. I prefered sitting on the sides near the entrances for better sightlines.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Fewer children due to time of the year but my son enjoyed O2

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
This ship seems to have an enjoyment issue. Most staff seemed overworked and not happy. Maybe it's the size but I definitely felt less special. And yes I am spending big money to feel a little special. That's one of the reasons I enjoy cruising.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I did not have any problems with design. I did not miss the glass elevators. Embarkation day was a mess because most of the elevators are being used for luggage delivery. Things improved on day two but it was still difficult most days to find a working elevator. Common areas should have been cleaner.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
There should be a warning for cabin 7376. The art storage and steward areas were directly across from us. There was noise all day and night. I woke one day at 4am to noise because they were loading up art.

Ship tip

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Love Cozumel but not the beach day I booked. Weather was very hot and beach was rocky. Food and drink was plentiful

Galveston, Texas

3 out of 5
Beware of all the construction in the area. We made it to the ship by 1 pm but this was later than expected for us.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Stingray city was fun but a little hectic. Just be patient and you will have a great time.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

5 out of 5
Crazy fun place. Dunn's River falls was exciting. Once in a lifetime experience I do not plan repeating. Good excursion for those looking for vigorous activity.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were delayed due to electrical issues but it was quick once we started to leave the boat. This was likely because there weren't many people on our side for luggage pick up in sect 15. The other side looked like a mess in sect 1-9. It would probably move quicker if they grouped odd/evens together.

We are suspicious when there is a blank wall across from the cabin . Like you, we had a noisy loading area across from us. That said, we did it again this last cruise, but got lucky as it was the entry to the laundry for sheets and towels. The cabin stewards were not there at all hours.

Glad it was a great time.

some cabins on most boats have this problem. not sure why it has not been addressed with a little sound proofing during refurbishment.
