Carnival Vista

7 Night Western Caribbean (Galveston Roundtrip)

Sail date: April 28, 2019

Ship: Carnival Vista

Cabin type: Balcony

Cabin number: 14236

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Review summary

We will not book a cruise again with Carnival. They're not horrible but if you come expecting "Mercedes-level" of quality, pampering and beauty you're going to be shocked to find you instead are on board a Chevy.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Got on board way faster than expected but won't sail out of Galveston again

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Thank God for Guy Fieri's hamburgers and the pizza place b/c main dining rooms and buffets were very disappointing. Most restaurants were average at best.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5

Entertainment

5 out of 5

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Several bartenders (and a few other workers) seemed apathetic and not happy with their jobs. However, there were also many happy and wonderful staffers.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Design is confusing and horribly marked with signage (good luck finding bathrooms). Cleanliness was good. Not as beautiful of a ship and you would think.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
If you can handle living in an RV, you can handle this. We will never buy an RV.

Ship tip

Avoid the main dining rooms at all costs.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

3 out of 5
It's the Walmart of ship ports. And Texas has some archaic (read: stupid) rules about alcohol before noon.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
It's OK, but it's a typical tourist stop in typical Mexico. Certainly not exotic. Highly recommend the Dolphin experience (Dolphinaris).

Belize City, Belize

4 out of 5
Nice little 3rd world country in Caribbean. You lose WAY too much time with tenders to get to shore and bus rides to Mayan ruins. Had almost zero time after excursion to "experience" Belize.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

1 out of 5
Due to wind, we weren't allowed to dock and had to go back to Cozumel for a 2nd time instead.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Not bad but good luck getting an elevator.

I like my RV. The walls keep people out like you. Cruise vista in 88 days-come on July

Try Crystal, Viking, Regent or Oceania if you want Mercedes level service. Just expect to pay 3 - 10 times the Carnival prices.

Bitch bitch bitch......maybe cruising is not for u. References to 3rd world countries and walmart. Hummmmm

You won't get a Mercedes at Chevrolet prices either! If you expect a first class experience, open your wallet

You will need to pay the appropriate cost of a small RV to get the sailing experience you are looking for. Don't expect to get $20,000 pampering on a $5000 cruise. It's a vacation, lighten up and enjoy it. I have sailed on Vista and I own a fifth wheel RV.

Wow ! Did you dine in any specialty restaurants? Did you stay in the Havana cabins ? What type of cabin, did you have ? I don’t care for Mercedes, I’m a Ford lady. I guess I’ll be okay. I have a Havana cabin.
