Review summary

Was a great vacation! We had a beautiful room, great company, wonderful ports! Great service in dining rooms and enjoyed the food, shows, entertainment, ocean views, and drinks!

Embarkation

I have never experienced such a hectic embarkation day! Usually we have no issues with the process, and have been able to relax on this day; however, for this cruise, we were far from relaxed on embarkation day. The ship was running behind in disembarking previous week passengers. Also the signs were not clearly marked at the terminal-- "On Time" vs. "Early/Late" ..... uhh.... Used to be a line for VIP guests (platinum, diamond, suite, FTTF) and a line for passengers to ONLY get in line during their check in times. I found it frustrating that I had a selected a specific check in time and others that had check in times listed TWO hours after me were able to board the ship before myself. I found that standing in line was MUCH longer. I felt horrible for the older guests who clearly should not be having to stand that long!! Check in times should be followed.. and there should be SUPER clear instructions for passengers! Also there should be perks for cruisers who had booked the trip 658 days in advance.. As that's what I do to ensure I get dibs on early check in and my perferred dining times. Disembarking was an even worse process... Even being in the 'Early Zones' we did not get to our vehicle until 1:30pm. Stood in customs for about an hour and a half... and was not quite sure what the hold up was. But it did explain as to why they just start to let anyone on... As they only have until 4pm to board everyone for the next cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room had great food for the first half of the cruise, and seemed to dwindle down in quality towards the end of the cruise. Best food on the ship was at Jiji's Asian Cusine. I would highly recommend! I was disappointed in their Cusina Del Capitano restaurant as it was not as good as the other ships that I have been on.

Onboard Activities

I enjoyed just relaxing around the ship. Ppl seemed to really enjoy the Sky Ride, and shows. Everyone spoke highly of the CD. However, I did not see too much of him. Watched him during the Love and Marriage show, and I did enjoy that.

Service and Staff

I absolutely enjoyed the Waitress (Smita?) we had and the Room Steward (Guntur). excellent service from both of them! :)

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
From reviews that I had read prior to boarding, I was expecting the 'atrium' area to feel a bit smaller.... I was expecting it to be/feel about half the size of the other ships I have been on. Well.... surprisingly it feels to be only a quarter of the size of other ships. All of the areas in the ship have a 'closed in' feeling. Modern décor doesn't help it out much either. The mid ship dining room was only one story-- and with low ceilings. Not much to mention on the decoration in the dining rooms either. The casino was on Deck 4... and felt super closed in as well. The ventilation in the casino was definitely the worse I've seen on any ship. I could not handle the smell of the smoke. Awful! Now, I did enjoy the Havana area (after 7pm its open to the public) and I definitely enjoyed having a private cove balcony on deck 2. Completely highlighting the whole trip! Was peaceful on the lower decks!

Cabin / Stateroom

Absolutely my most favorite cabin I've ever been in. Loved the private balcony close to the water! It was also nice to have the lifeboats above to block rain and too much sun!

Ship tip

A cruise is what you make it! If you like the port of calls, then any ship is worth cruising! The Vista was definitely not my favorite, but with the right ports, I'd book her again.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Cozumel is always a good day!! We visited this port twice (We could not port in Roatan due to weather) ... first day we went to Mr Sanchos, and the second day we went to the Sand Dollar Dive and I was able to dive with my mom who is not certified! Had a blast!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Not the best for scuba diving. But was extremely surprised by how fun the port was: Great food, big and free salt water public pools, Great shopping, Music was fun!, Great food and drinks!! I would say that this port is great for jewelry shopping! Absolutely would go back!

Belize City, Belize

We went diving here! Was a gorgeous reef off of Turneffe Atoll! I will definitely be coming back here

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras Did not visit port

Sadly, we could not dock at this port :(

Disembarkation

AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1.5 Hr wait standing in line for customs.. waited 45 mins to an hr for a porter. I'm pretty sure my family members are now sick because of the long waits in the customs line in closee quarters to ill passengers.

So sad to read such a poor review. We had quite the opposite experience on Vista last June out of Miami. Got on in 7-10 minutes, off way too fast, lol! Travelled with a group of 16, ages 23-53, and not one complaint, other than the horrible port traffic. Don’t let one bad experience deter you from cruising again, it can be hit or miss.
