Wonderful Fantastic! by gregallen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship and staff were all very helpful and friendly. The ship itself was stellar clean. We had an enjoyable trip and we made allot of memories. The cocktails and drinks are a little pricey (average between $6 and $9 on the low end)

Great trip to Mexico by philcamren

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time. We would love to cruise with Carnival at some point in the future. You like to try some of the other Caribbean islands. And probably go for a 7-Day over a 5-day trip.

This was my first cruise... by adriennecruises

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

This was my first cruise with Carnival. I was not 100% happy with it. Cons. 1. Very disorganized when it come to letting people off on the ports. It took 1hr or longer to get off in Cozumel. And Progresso was almost as bad. 2. The buffet was more like a cafeteria different selection each night no variety. People were severing you were not at the station had to wait. They did not in force the no pool wear rule. Never saw so many half nake people. Didn't enjoy seeing that while I was eating. Hair may fall where it should not fall from. 3. It did not flow well on sea days. Far as some areas. 4. Entertainment was lacking. 5. She showing her age able to see rust and chip tiles. Other ship I have been on that was almost as old as her was very well maintain. 6. The photo shop needs to come into the digital age stop wasting so many pages of photo paper. Tip: Use people room numbers when taking the photo and when they login into the system. Just so waste full. They say they are going green. Go green with digital. 7. To many smoking areas. That you have to walk through. They need to be contain or more visional marked. 8. The Muster drill they put you on hot area and show you what to do but if you are not standing close to the center where they are demstartion it you can see nothing. They need more people demstartion or divide people up more. 9. The way they bill I am used to the cruise line billing all the onboard chargers at once on the disembarkation day. They did not do this. It was very confusing how they billed. Pros. 1. Like the lay out of the cabin. I was able to set on the bed see out the window. It had a couch and chair which I liked. It felt bigger than the other ship I had been on. 2. The staff was friendly. The room steward was amazing. He always give ice without me having to ask. He even give extra pillows for me because I hurt my leg it need elevated. The other staff was just as helpful. Even the buffet staff when you could fine one. 3. The price was good, they didn't try to up charge lot of items like some cruise lines do. 4. Like it that I could put an X about of money on my newphe sign and sail card not have to worry that he would go over have hundreds of dollars chargers in the arcade. Once he used up the amount he was done. 5. They try to make up for what was lacking in having something to fun to do on sea days. Lots of little fun actitives. 6. Faster to the fun. Is worth it if you want to get on board early and off early. However it did not work on ports at least on this sailing. I like it that I got on early could start enjoying the ship. 7. They have a self serves laundry room which came in handle when we got wet because of the rain in Progresso. The price was not to bad. 8. Was able to fine a deck chair when I went to set out. Would I sail Carnival Valor again probably not to much stuff I didn't like. Would I sail with Carnival again probably, but on a different ship. Another thing that might not cause me to enjoy the cruise is I hurt my leg and had to have it up. Could not walk to good. Had to stay in the cabin more than I normally do. Thier was few other factors as well that might not cause me to enjoy the cruise. Such as the people.

We got off of the... by aengle522

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

We got off of the Valor on Thursday. This was our 1st cruise, it was so much more than we expected. The CD Brandon was great! He kept everyone entertained. All of the staff was friendly and accommodating. We ate at the steak house for our anniversary and it was phenomenal! It was worth every penny! We visited Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel and everything there was great! We took a bus tour of the city in Progreso and shopped in the market. We are addicted to cruising, we've already booked our next one.

Refreshing Caribbean Cruise by LindaCats

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall I enjoyed was a little disappointed in the Valor but once again I believe I found myself comparing it with Norwegian. Getting off at the ports were too slow and took entirely too long. They need organization and taking almost 2 hours to get you off and detaining your excursions ...really get a better system. Would I travel them again? Yes but maybe another ship. They weren't all bad just need improvement as we all.

This was first cruise on... by LindaCats

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

This was first cruise on the Valor. We just got in on Thursday, May 24, 2018. I was impressed with this cruise as I have been on previous cruises. This was my 3rd cruise. I have previously cruised with Norwegian. Some negatives: 1. Dining was more cafeteria style than buffet. Poor selections on (buffet). Many of the food places closed early. People were allowed in their swimming suits uncovered. 2. Smoking: too many places they allowed smoking. Unable to walk deck without going through smoking areas. 3. Casino in the middle and open. No way to walk through without going through it unless going above or below. Even children could walk through it. 4. I didn't enjoy their entertainment in the theater but that just me. It would depend on what you like. I like variety. 5. Pictures were costly unless you bought a picture package prior too. My daughter-in-law had bought the picture package but they changed it and canceled her package and was forced to buy each picture separately. An 8x10 was $20. 6. Getting off at ports were hectic. No organization at all. Took over hour getting off at Cozumel. This caused the excursion to be delayed and shortened time in seeing Cozumel cause excursion didn't get over til 2 and was supposed to been 1. And at Progresso some improvement but still took a while. Positives: 1. Room, I found it to have more space. It had a couch and chair. It seemed very roomy. 2. Room steward-definitely 5 stars. He was great, helpful and very friendly. In fact most of the stewards were helpful and friendly. 3. Main dining - food was good , just didn't like it that men were not able to wear jeans with shirt. Had to be dressed. 4. Steak house - 5 star-- all excellent, food, service all excelled. 5. Deportation, I feel went smoothly there were some misunderstanding by some but we got off quickly and porter was extremely helpful. Would I sail with Carnival again probably but not the Valor. Just really didn t like it's lay out.

I sailed on the Valor... by bkdodge

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

I sailed on the Valor 5/14 - 5/19 room 7410 an ocean balcony stateroom. I am not an avid cruise fan but have been on 7 cruises over the past 25 years and this was my 4th Carnival cruise so I will only compare it to the other Carnival ships. Being from Arizona I have always left from the California port(s) but wanted to try something different on this cruise. Overall I really liked the Valor. Our stateroom was always kept clean by Pen, who gave us the option of having our room cleaned in the morning or afternoon or both each day. The food on board was the best I have had on a Carnival cruise to date. The breakfast buffet was not very good but we typically do not eat at the buffets much opting for a made to order omelet each day which are good. We had my time dining in the Lincoln dining room and the food and service was excellent. This was the first time we had tried my time dining and will probably not do it again because you have a different waiter each night and you lose that personal touch you get with a wait staff that sees you every night for 5-7 nights. The made to order pizza, Guys burgers and burrito cantina were all excellent. If there was a line it moved quickly. Did not see any shows but did the comedy club several nights and the shows were pretty good. It does get really crowded there so go early if you want a seat. The only complaint I had on this cruise and the reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 was the bar staff. I ordered several drinks that were made completely wrong and tasted pretty bad. Some of the bartenders seem to kind of free wheel it and can not make even the basic mixed drinks on Carnivals own drink menu. These were at the pool bars and I do not know if the Alchemy bar was better because it’s several decks below the pools. The ship was always very clean both inside and out. Hope this review helps anyone that has not been on this ship before.

Nice Caribbean Cruise. Not sure I would do again. by kb7pts

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Cruise itself is nice. The staff are amazing. Food is pretty good. Entertainment is good. Cozumel was amazing Port of Call. Progresso could have been taken off the schedule and no one miss anything. This is a very poor, dirty dingy area that Carnival is trying to monopolize. Too bad too. Completely understand the disembarkation takes time to orgastrate, but there could be AC, or at the very minimum fans to help with the extreme heat while you wait for customs/Immigration etc. Simply having air moving would have been a big plus.

This was my first ever... by VW2018

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

This was my first ever cruise so it was a learning experience. The things that prevent a 5 star rating were the bed and drink package fiascos. We requested a queen size bed and we got two twin mattresses that had been pushed together. It seemed like whenever I turned over to cuddle my hubby my elbow would find the middle and then the mattresses would push apart which would make the sheets come off. Made for horrible sleeping. The endless bubbles was a joke so we won't do that again. Soda was only available at the bars which open at 9 a.m. so no morning sodas. They took a 10 oz glass filled it to the top with ice then could only fit 6 oz of the 12 oz can (which they won't let you have) and you can only have 1 every 5 minutes. It takes that long to get from the dining to the bar and wait for service to get a refill. My hubby had to use my card and his to bring back 2 drinks at a time so that we could finish a meal in peace with plenty to drink. Annoying way to get the sodas we paid extra to have but the only way we could find that worked with their rules. On positive side, dill pickles did help with motion sickness like I had been told. Deli was only place with pickles and when I told them I wanted dill pickles for motion sickness they filled a plate with them and I munched on them throughout the day. We saw flying fish on the left side of the boat an hour or so before arriving at Cozumel. We were on deck 3 near the front watching the waves. They were smaller than I thought, clear "wings", dark stripe at top with white bellies. So cool to see. At first it was one or two then we saw small groups of 5 or more. :) The excursions really made the trip awesome as we got to see or do something cool in the time we had at port. If you were on an approved excursion the boat was guaranteed to wait for you to get back so that was a relief. We did the beginner scuba in Cozumel and my hubby and I both enjoyed the experience so much we will be pursuing additional certification. We are both overweight and I honestly thought it might be an issue, but other than needing a few more weights put on our belt to counter fats natural buoyancy (lol) it was no harder for us than the other beginners. What little Spanish I knew really paid off. Thank you Rosetta Stone :) I chatted about knitting and crocheting with some locals. I'm sure I made mistakes but the people loved that I was trying and were happy to correct me and chat in their language. The whole port experience was just awesome. The people are so friendly. I know its their job to be friendly in the shops but I really feel like they lit up and smiled more naturally when I spoke with them in Spanish, they even told me about unadvertised specials, which gave me a serape and scarf I would not have known about. Scarlatti's restaurant on deck 10 has the best food and service on the ship :). Flat fee of $35 per person is worth EVERY penny and more. We went twice during our trip. The crew on the ship were very friendly and wonderful to chat with. Avol was from India and was working the sushi bar. He taught me you say "Namaste with your hands together as a greeting while he made me some spicy salmon sushi called "Bang Bang" I think. Very yummy, I ended up going there again. Our steward was Aurelio, and we had towel animals in our room every day and were greeted by him coming and going in the halls as he oversaw the workers cleaning the rooms. Caught a few singing while they worked :) good feelings all around :) I really want to give 5 stars but just can't because I feel like I paid to get something I didn't get (endless bubbles) and the bed being two twins that kept sliding apart during the night made us cranky during the day and not being able to drink a Dr pepper with breakfast just made it worse. (We don't drink coffee it tastes like cigarette ash to us, apple juice gives you diarrhea so didn't want to risk that while visiting a foreign country, water tasted like pool vinyl, and I don't like tea although hubby became fed up with the soda thing and drank tea. So that's why I can't give 5 stars.

Carnival Valor - Cozumel by rodneycooper

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was pretty cool. I went with a family member who was quite older than me so i didnt have as much fun as I would of if I had someone my age. The food was pretty good, the pizza was amazing though. I did get sick from eating a Sandwich from the Deli. I woke up throwing up the day we arrived in Mexico so that kind of sucked. So If you're reading this, I wouldn't eat from the deli. They have their meats laying out at room temperature and I know that cant be very good. The buffets were awesome too. They are not open all the time though, so you have to remember that. I thought they were and every time I went to go get food, they were closed. I was glad our room was on the Lido deck (room 9228) because we didnt have to walk very far to get food or drinks. Which I do have a complaint about drinks. They should have more than 1 location for drinks. You have to walk to the middle of the lido deck to get a drink which is kind of lame. I am glad I brought my own Yeti cup because the ones they offer you is TINY! The stateroom was not as small as I thought it was going to be. We had two twin beds which could be pushed together into a large bed. They even provided the mattress pad and large blanket in case you decided to go that route. They had two lamps in the room which had USB connections that worked out really well. Other than that, they only had 1 outlet to use, which I planned for and brought a surge protector with alot of plugs. The room also never stayed at a stable temperature. I was either hot or cold, but mostly hot. The pools were always over crowded with kids, which was VERY annoying. I didn't even swim because of that. Upset about that fact. But other than that, I had a fun time.
