If you’re looking for intimate or even relaxing for that matter, look else where. Avoid Carnival. They’re just not it anymore
Embarkation
4 out of 5
The Embark was great. We were delayed due to Debark from pervious trip. The staff were very communicative throughout the process
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
The main dining room was a MEGA let down. The food was almost all unappetizing and chicken was prepared with seafood. Big no no. The Steakhouse was fantastic and the best thing we ate on the ship. We went twice. The buffet was very much the same as all other cruise buffets. The sandwich shop was FANTASTIC.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The onboard activities were okay at best. My wife and I found ourselves in the casino a lot because not much of the “activities” were exciting or entertaining. Pools and hot tubs were always slammed with people but that is to be expected.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The live music throughout the bars and casino and atriums were very good. The covers were very diverse and allowed everyone to interact.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
I’m giving this 2 stars only due to the fact that almost every bartender and casino worker remembered your name or drink from the days before. I thought that was standup. However, guest services needs serious customer service training. I had an order to be delivered on my Anniversary that not only got messed up prior to boarding but when I reordered it in the on board candystore, it was STILL not done correctly. I was incredibly upset about this as it was surprise for my wife.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
The ships layout was good. Smaller and a littler older with some age showing. As someone whose wife has arthritis we didn’t mind a smaller ship. The casino needs better options for the non penny slot player. Common areas were clean but normally smelled of marijuana smoke. Yet again, very disappointing.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
The stateroom was a basic balcony cabin. The bathroom was incredibly dusty when we arrived on Embark. There was hair on the shower walls. The bathroom showed the serious age of the ship. The balcony furniture and panoramic glass were COMPLETELY salt covered so you couldn’t see anything if sitting, that is if you wanted to get salt all over your clothes. The drapes had tears in them that allowed light through. The bedside table light button was completely missing. There was someone else’s artwork set left underneath the bed. The stateroom was an absolute joke!!!!
Ship tip
Attention to detail is not there so don’t go looking for it.
The port is very depressing. The pier is 7 miles long with a shuttle bus that drops you off in town. There’s very little shopping around the drop off area and feels very sketchy the further out you explore. We paid for an excursion through Autoprogeso and went to Xcambo ruins and Technohotel all inclusive hotel for the day. That excursion cost us $90 total for both of us. It was totally worth it and will save you about $100-$120 compared to getting it through the cruise ship. The excursion can be purchase where the shuttle bus drops you off in town
It would seem that someone could hand you a $100 bill but you’d gripe about how it’s folded.
You should have done research on this ship to know that it is now an older ship so it will show wear and tear. It’s rotating so many guests each week, want us to pull over so we can sew your curtains back together?
I’m also curious how you know that chicken and seafood were “prepared” together in the dining room? Were they served together? That doesn’t mean it was prepared together…but ok..
Then we come to the “surprise” you were just oh so very upset over because it wasn’t correct and was for your wife. Have a little grace. I know you paid for it but you had an opportunity here to create a memorable experience to look back and laugh together on instead of acting like a child who’s artwork had been demolished.
I would think Carnival is not for you.
Sorry you did not like the cruise. You say that you snuck in with the diamond and platinum guests when you debarked. What other rules did you not adhere to? People like you are the ones people cuss because it screws the whole system up.
