Review summary

We were truly impressed with the Carnival's customer service focus of every staff member we encountered.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Let's face it there is only so much you can do when you have 3,600 people all loading but Carnival did a good job of staggering the crowds and moving them through. Once on the gangway the cruise experience began. Staff were everywhere to assist with questions and to help orient us as we boarded.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food is very good and plentiful. I would not call it "gourmet" but it was tasty and no one can complain of going hungry.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Great friendly staff! The drinks were strong and well flavored.

Entertainment

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Maybe this is common with cruise ships but the Carnival staff was amazing. I do not recall see one staff member who did not make eye contact and acknowledge me.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was immaculate. Everywhere you went there was always staff cleaning. Scrubbing, painting, sweeping, busing tables, disinfecting, the list goes on and on and it never seemed to stop.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Surprisingly efficient use of space. There was plenty of storage, the bed was very comfortable, the balcony was the right size, the bathroom and the vanity area were both roomy enough to not seem congested. When in the room we had plenty of room to sit, read, relax or watch television.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
The waters were beautiful and the beach area was a delight.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

3 out of 5
The only reason to go to Progreso is to go on an excursion somewhere else. The dock area that Carnival uses is itself a man-made peninsula and very unattractive. You have to take a shuttle to Progreso. There is no where to walk to the town. The shuttle takes you to the bus station where you immediately are hustled by all the street vendors. If you walk down to the beach you have to once again navigate all the stalls of goods being hawked by the locals.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
You can only do so much to make getting off a ship (or a plane) pleasant and Carnival did an excellent job of informing the passengers of what would happen. They staggered the times and it worked about as well as can be expected. They picked up the luggage the previous evening and had assigned numbers for the baggage. When we got to the warehouse where customs was located the luggage had been segregated by the assigned numbers so it was easy to find and to pick up. The longest lines were not Carnival's personnel but going through customs. You just wait and be patient just as you do at the airport.
