Review summary

Pros: The ship was clean, the common areas were bright and cheerful...the cabins were comfortable and the staff was truly outstanding. Cons: Very crowded, very loud....and very easy to spend a truck-load of $ with that damn card.... and I didn't even go into the casino -- I can just imagine how much money you could dump in there. Overall, it was a pretty typical Carnival cruise....lots of fun to be had and money to be spent.... and (thankfully) some quiet places to hang out too!

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Never fun...feel like cattle being herded... but it went quickly enough. The worst was the (required) life boat and safety discussion... it was so hot and 2 women in my area had panic attacks and almost passed out. There has to be a better way.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the food was good, but I am not a picky eater. The picky eater of the group griped every night that the "good stuff" cost extra and it use to be included.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools were usually covered up with noisy kids, LOL....There was no rock-climbing wall (not that I would have done it anyway), but my daughters did enjoy the fitness center. The best thing I did was splurge on a balcony room where I could sit outside with no one else around!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I saw a couple of comedians (one was really good, the other was okay)...the final night they did a 70's Rock show that was excellent....a lot of fun!

Children's Programs

No children with me

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service and staff were incredible....they made up for the constant sell, sell, sell atmosphere. The towel animals were always fun and our dining group of waiters were just great (even patient with the picky eater!)

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Whatever you do, don't get out on Decks 3, 4 or 5 in the center Elevator area.... you will be trapped in a kitchen galley area with no access (that I could find) to the guest areas or corridors.... you are told to walk up or down a couple of floors to be able to pass this area of the ship.... as an Architect, I consider this an incredibly poor design.... there should be at least one access point out of this area that does not involve changing floors again!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Incredibly comfy bed, reasonably sized, very clean....LOVED the balcony....microscopically small bathroom.

Ship tip

Spring for the balcony room.... don't get off on floors 3,4,or 5, center.... bring some walkie-talkies if you have a large group (the Carnival Hub App didn't get a signal from floor 8, where I was, to floor 2, where my daughters were.... it was impossible to communicate to a lot of areas of the ship and Guest Services could not help).... yes, that is more than one piece of advice.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
this is where we left and arrived -- no excursions (but I like Galveston...we got there early and stayed with family and went to the Strand)

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We did the catamaran and snorkeling .... pretty water, lots of fish.... a LOT of pressure to tip at the end

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

3 out of 5
I stayed on the ship....we were next to a military base it looked like and pretty depressing scenery. My daughters did the Dune Buggy and Ruins.... They said they went thru some really run-down areas but overall it was ok.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
More cattle herding, but pretty smooth.
