Review summary

Overall, I would say it was a good experience. You do have to keep in mind the cruise line wants your money... so the whole trip may seem like one huge tourist trap. But keeping that in mind and watching what you spend will keep your expenses at a reasonable level.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Very organized and quick. The porters were very helpful getting our luggage to the ship. The staff member that checked us in was... well, kind of burned out. He spoke in monotone and wasn't very willing to answer questions.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food at Rosies Buffet Restaurant (Deck 9.. Lido Deck) was very good and the number of selections were good. The food was at a good temperature. The Main Dining Room food was good, and the staff bent over backwards to make sure you enjoyed your meal. Guys' Burger Joint was okay.. the burgers were a little dry and needed a lot of condiments to compensate. But service was very fast and friendly. The pizza place was open 24 hours which was extremely convenient... but the pizza was lousy... burned with very little sauce. The room service food was great... and delivery times were reasonable. Very friendly delivery personnel. However, in my humble opinion, the "Bottomless Bubbles" program was an absolute waste of money. When I would try to get a soda with the program the bartender would often groan and be very slow at serving me the drink. Then.... he or she would give me a receipt which included a line to enter a tip. WHY would I buy the Bottomless Bubbles program if I had to tip each time I was served a soda? I don't understand why the ship would not have drink dispensers that the customer could get their own sodas??? This one complaint is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We went to the comedy shows which were very good! We went to all of Orlandos shows... he is the cruise director and his shows were all very informative and funny.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff are amazing.... all of them (Our porter, wait staff and steward) all remembered our names and were extremely helpful.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Because of the layout of the ship, most times we were confused about how to get from point A to point B. For example, sometimes we had to go up a deck or two to cross over the dining halls which were two decks tall, then go back down the two decks, etc. etc... very confusing at times.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The beds and pillows were fantastic!! Slept better than I have for years! The bathroom was a little small and was the subject in some of the comedy shows...

Ship tip

Even though it is tempting, don't waste your money on Bottomless Bubbles.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Not very well thought out. I would NOT follow the advice of the cruise line and drop off your spouse with the luggage at the check in area while you go park the car, nor would I do the reverse when debarking.... traffic jams delayed us by about 90 minutes.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We went on the Atlantis Submarine excursion, which was okay. All we saw was a few small fish and the shipwreck. (If anyone has been on the old Disney World ride "20,000 leagues under the sea" you would have seen just as much. After the excursion we went into downtown Cozumel for some shopping and found the people to be every friendly; and most spoke English.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

We went on the Mayan Ruins tour. The bus ride to the ruins was tolerable, but the A/C didn't work very well on the bus. The lunch provided was a sack lunch that was not good. It included a sandwich, a bottle of water, an apple, some chips and a small packet of candy. The ruins was great!! But because of time restraints we weren't able to stay very long. Took some great pictures!

VERY LOOOONG lines to get to customs.

I was addressing bwerner6632's point: "the cruiseline wants your money" and "the whole trip may seem like one huge tourist trap".

cruise is to enjoy .Buy the pictures if you want too. Enjoy the fancy drink. Especially if it's your first cruise

They are WAY over priced. And they are taking your picture all the time. Just hand your camera to someone else and say, " Would you take our picture?"

why not buy pics on board?

jbbinder    7 years ago

Don't buy the pictures. Don't buy anything at the on-board "sales". Don't buy the fancy drink containers.
