Review summary
I would like to first say that I have cruised with Carnival between 8 and 10 times, but this was the first on the Valor. When we first stepped on board the ship I noticed employee's cleaning the public areas of the ship, and each and every day that I walked thru deck 5, someone would be cleaning. My cabin was very clean, and was cleaned each and every time that I left the room, Plenty of towels, etc.., The food was adequate with the typical Carnival dinner each night. however the time it took to be served averaged around two hours each night, which was longer than what has been typical in the past. When in the casino the staff was friendly, and always pleasant. The shows were entertaining and enjoyable. I had two bad experiences while on the ship, one was that the staff in the Sports Bar was very rude all week, and not helpful at all trying to help the fans watch their favorite teams, even when the bar was full of the same team. It didn't matter. You watched what was on or you went on your way! I expected more from a sports bar when the World Series, College Football, and Nascar had important events going on, maybe the staff aren't sports fans and it's just a job for them! When asked if they could change the T.V.'s to another event the answer was always the same NO! The t.v.'s in the room had three cartoon channels playing the entire cruise, and we may have had 10 kids on the ship, since school is in session most of the ship was older guest, Why couldn't some of those channels be used for sports channels this time of year, if the Sports Bar is not going to show more than one or two games at a time. For all the other staff to be so nice and smiling and helpful this staff was just rude all the time! The second happened when my wife and I had an excursion planned early and needed to be near the front of the line when getting off the ship to meet the start time of the excursion, which was not booked thru Carnival. We got up early, went to breakfast, then walked down the stairs to deck 0 where we spoke to some of the employee's who all were very nice and wished us a good day. After standing on the bottom step for about 40 minutes with other guest who had come and got in line behind us, we were confronted by a tall blonde gentlemen in a red cap that stated to us that we could not wait there, that we had to wait on deck 1, He stated that there was signage there saying to stop there and wait. He was hateful and forceful. I told him at the time we came down the steps there was not any signage, He stated that he would show us, so we went back up the steps and to his surprise there was no signage there, he just mumbled to himself and walked back down the steps. I felt like he had call myself and my wife liars as well at the other guest that were behind us in line. Maybe someone hadn't done the job that they were suppose to do, but to call guest liars before he knew the facts, didn't sit very well with me. This is the first time I have ever encounter rude employee's from Carnival, but I've always been told there is always one in each crowd, this time there was two! We ate at the steak house one night and the food and service was very good! Overall I would rate the entire cruise a 3.0 on a scale of 1 to 5. One other concern I had was that I could not hear the Captain when he spoke thru the intercom system .His voice was so low that I could not make out anything he said, I would hope in the event of an emergency that he would speak up so the guest could actually hear what he had to say!
