Review summary

This was my first cruise experience. I was invited by another family that was taking this cruise so my daughter and I joined them. I had no expectations about cruising and did not really think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Something I will definitely try again.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Was a relatively smooth flow through the terminal with only minimal wait times.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room was good, only problem was that time between order and service was slightly long in my opinion. Also the offer of refills or after dinner coffee was mostly not made. Specialty restaurants were excellent and usually my go to choice. Breakfast buffet was good, evening buffet not as good but acceptable.

Club Rio Aft Lounge

5 out of 5

One of my favorite spots on the ship. I caught about every act that played here during the cruise. Really enjoyed the comedy of Killer Beaz and the Motown night with Fluer De Force

Blue Iguana Cantina

5 out of 5

Food was excellent, especially the fish tacos!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Seas were rough both days while at sea so we did not use the pools. Mini-golf was enjoyable, also hot tubs were nice but felt there should have been one dedicated to adults.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The comedy club was the hi-light of the various entertainment. Also really enjoyed the music of Fluer De Force Band. Both production numbers I attended were ok, singers were not of the quality I expected. Cruise director David was great and I enjoyed the Mardi Gras party he hosted on the last night at sea.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room steward (Wayan) was friendly, efficient and always was quick to take care of any requests.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Although the ship was showing some signs of age the crew did an excellent job of keeping it clean and presentable. For the most part it was easy to get around onboard after learning when things were located. Very few detours.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was about as expected. Beds were okay, just a little to soft. Temperature remained comfortable for the most part, just sometimes at night it would get a little warm. Room was keep very clean.

Ship tip

Upgrade to a balcony cabin if possible.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
The port was clean and easy to find your way around. We did an all inclusive beach resort (Mr Sancho's) and were very pleased with the experience even though it was still a little to cold for swimming or snorkeling.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico Did not visit port

We spent the day on board mainly because we were not interested in doing an excursion and the bus ride into town was to long.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was quick and smooth, no problems whatsoever.
