I would not ever recommend Carnival Sunshine.
If your going to pay that much money for a cruise, choose a good ship.
I wish I had booked on Royal Caribbean Oasis.
Never a disappointment
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We got on the ship without any problems.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The main dining room food was fair.
Nothing to brag about
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
This ship didn’t really have anything exciting going on.
Every ship has bingo, trivia, etc.
That gets old after a while.
Gambling and shopping in the stores or from the sale tables, nothing new.
The casino is so smoky I hated to even walk thru it.
There wasn’t a nicely decorated deck on the ship that we could go to and just sit and enjoy.
Very little Christmas decorations or music.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The three shows were very good.
There was no comedy on the ship at night or anytime for that matter.
Nothing to do after dinner other then the 3 shows, keroke, or casino.
Boring ship.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The ship staff was as always excellent.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
This ship is old, not at all pretty and showing distress and destruction.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Our cabin was just ok.
Really nothing special.
The balcony was a lot longer then most but never got to use the long end as there was a lounge chair blocking that end of it.
The furniture out there is old and dirty looking.
The windows are so fogged up you couldn’t see that good out of them.
Ship tip
Chooses a newer better ship.
This Carnival Sunshine was a waste of money.
Will be on the Sunshine Apr. third time on her in 4 yrs. it will be my 45th cruise. Love the Sunshine. The theater area combo disco I’m not crazy about the food choices are awesome Ji Ji Asian totally unique. And free lunch in the Italian area is best lunch at sea. Did that twice last time
Was on Sunshine Dec 1st - 8 nt. eastern. Loved it! Yes, ship is smaller and lots of cruisers, but proper planing will make all of the amenities accessible!!
I beg to differ Franquinlan. I love Carnival and I especially love the Sunshine and that's where I'm going in the spring time. I did cruise on the Oasis many years ago and I really didn't like it one bit. It was way too big for me and just really wasn't for me. You go back to Oasis where you're happy and I'll stay with Carnival. So sorry Carnival didn't work out for you.
I’ve read mostly good reviews on the sunshine. Looking forward to sailing her in 8 days! We were on the Oasis last November. We enjoyed it but found it too big for our taste. We prefer the smaller ships where you really get to know people.
We like the Sunshine. We found there was much to do and enjoy. Comedy shows were every night when we sailed. We also liked the quiet time on our balcony, it is a vacation and we found the Sunshine very accommodating in all respects. Whatever cruisr you choose I sincerely hope you find a happy balance and enjoy yourself.
We will be getting on the Sunshine January 7. I hope we don't have the same experience. After reading all the reviews we can, I am still looking forward to it.
When I went on Carnival in October there were comedy shows pretty much every night, even 18+ comedy shows. I'm surprised there weren't any when you were on. Our debarkation process also flew by. Sorry you didn't have the best time! At least now you know it isn't your favorite ship.
Hate to say it but you may find any ship smaller than oasis class boring. Those who 1st cruise on Oasis expect that on everyship and thats just not realistic. I hope you you enjoy your next cruise, I see you book 2 other oasis class ships, which sound like they fit you style best, you could probably book freedom class but remember while not old by any means these ships have a few years and will show wear and tare.
