Review summary

It was ok. Not the best cruise I’ve been on. They seem to nickel and dime you the whole cruise. Got a cold and they charged $18.00 for a bottle of NyQuil. Ridiculous!!!

The Sunshine is definitely nicer than the Ecstasy and the Fantasy. We have been on all three, Sunshine most recently last year.

Thanks jeffmasayo. Like I tell my hubs, when I go on a cruise I expect the best but always plan for the worst. On a different subject, I notice you sailed on The Sunshine earlier this month. What did you think of her? Come 2019 she will be replacing The Ecstasy as the official ship docked at Port of Charleston. Since that's only a few hours from where I live, I'm hoping she's just as much fun as The Fantasy abd The Ecstasy were!

Listen to OceanSky, always go prepared with meds. Cold, allergy, pain relief, subburn and motion sickness - always pack! Better to have, and not need than to need and not have!!

In the event that EVERYONE wants to get off the ship at once, (gee, does that really happen?) ...vbg....we intentionally wait to be the last to disembark. Never an issue. I know some believe they need to be FIFO...but more than likely, that isn't the case. Have breakfast....enjoy....relax for ALL of your cruise experience.

Glitterfairy - I agree. Without details those stars mean nothing.

Low "star" ratings without explanations are not particularly helpful...

$5 for a bandage on a cruise

I agree! My husband laughed at the traveling pharmacy I carry while at sea. But when he saw what a small bottle of allergy meds costs on the ship, he was no longer laughing! Ditto lotion to take the sting out of a sunburn. I also always carry an extra week's worth of my RX drugs, which pretty much saved my butt when a few years ago my 5 day cruise unexpectedly became an 8 day cruise!

OMG oceansky...and here I thought I was the only one! Haha... But really, one can never b at fault for cruising "prepared" for whatever may happen!

sheenarn    6 years ago

As I take more cruises I learn that being prepared saves, I bring a little med kit with me with all the first aid stuff.

OceanSky    6 years ago

@ Mamalich - and here I thought I was the only one who ways made sure to pack UTI meds when going on a cruise!! But you're right, the only thing that can ruin a cruise faster than having to use the bathroom every ery 10 minutes and it hurting like heck, is having to experience that AND paying $360.00 to the ship's doctor to get rid of it!!

mamalich    6 years ago

I agree...I always take an assortment of cold medicines. Even go so far as bringing along a prescription for a UTI...ladies we all know how painful those can be and heaven forbid ur stuck out in the middle of the ocean with one of them buggers! Yikes!

Summerholiday    6 years ago

Your lucky you did not have to go to medical $360 for antibiotics and asthma spray never had asthma in my life and not had it since we normally take everything .. its unreal

CVCruiser    6 years ago

I take cold meds with me regardless... just in case. Nyquil gel-caps are a lifesaver! For as little room as it takes to bring along some various meds, bandages, superglue, etc... Ive never needed to buy anything on the ship or use ships medical. As the Navy taught me, always be prepared.

I always pack the medicine cabinet. 10 cruises, used most stuff at least once. Comes in handy. I keep it packed in a hang up organizer since we cruise 3-4 x/yr. but I always check expiration dates prior each cruise.

MandyCruisesToo    6 years ago

And that's why I look crazy when packing a little of everything from my medicine chest, but when my allergies acted up last cruise I was winning. I once paid $5 for a couple bandaids and a squeeze of Neosporin. Never again.

celighty    6 years ago

Well that is a lesson learned, we plan for everything. Remember the ship has the items available for you convenience and today everything has an expectation date, so if they don't sell it, it becomes trash and guess who pays for that. You did. Unfortunately that's life.

IkeDeb    6 years ago

When it comes to anything extra, the cruiselines will nickle and dime you. We try to plan on any situation. We take meds that we hope we won't need. We are getting ready to have our flu shts tomorrow. Our cruise is on the Sunshine in January.
