Review summary

This was our 7th Carnival Cruise. Seemed to be a lack of things going on during the day poolside. Bit disappointed with Waterworks and the Skycourse not being operational the entire time. Disappointed with the courteousness of guests traveling along side of us. Otherwise, Carnival staff were always pleasant and happy to help and the food was delicious. Would not sail on The Sunshine again.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Embarkation was disorganized. Took forever! People would cut the line constantly and the employees didn't do anything to send them to the end of the line. Leaving out of New York was eye opening. So many rude people that felt as though they should be able to get to everything before you without waiting their turn.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dinner service was excellent. Breakfast at Lido always plentiful and delicious. However not a big selection at Lido for dinner.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Waterworks was not operational for much of the time. Same for the Skycourse. Unfortunately there was only 1 small pool and it was full from morning until night. My kids were not comfortable trying to squeeze in there amongst all of the adults and children.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows and performers were top notch! Best we have seen thus far!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our dinner staff was exceptional! As usual, did not disappoint. Our room steward always kept our room stocked with towels and beds made.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Although this is one of the newer ships, it is super small. We have traveled on The Sunshine before but did not remember it being so small!

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We had an oceanview cabin on the 2'd floor. Traveling with 2 adults and 2 kids. Typically we have 2 bunks and 2 beds or 1 bunk, 1 couch, and 2 beds. We were surprised when we entered the room to discover 2 beds and 1 couch. They brought in a trundle bed for the floor which was fine, but it made it a bit tricky to get around the room all week. Room size was long enough and closet storage was good.

Ship tip

If you are sailing from New York, and not from New York, be prepared for loud, pushy, rambunctious folks who feel as though they are entitled to get places before you without being courteous and waiting their turn. Also, there is only 1 pool for all the guests so it fills up quickly and most don't ever get out. Makes you a little bit uneasy. Lounge chairs are reserved by guests almost immediately. Many never ever sit on them the entire day. Rule is 40 mins if no one uses them, they will be removed however didn't see anyone helping to address this situation. 1 women said she reserved 20 for her group. I couldn't believe it. Maybe 2 used them. Just rude!

Ports of call

New York, New York Did not visit port

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Have visited Grand Turk many times. Does not disappoint. Beautiful calm water and Margaritaville is always an option too

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
Half Moon Cay is our favorite. If you have kids or if you like beautiful, calm, warm water this is the place.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
We have been to Nassau many times. Lots of excursions available, and lots of shopping.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Although our number was one of the last groups called, it was super easy to get off the ship. Most guests carried their own luggage off so it took extra time as there were almost 3,000 on board.
