Review summary

Overall this cruise was enjoyable with the exceptions  of our late arrivals to all the ports due to inclement weather and the food in the dining room. As a past cruiser with Carnival, I noticed that they have implemented several changes that are not for the betterment of the cruiser. They now charge $3.00 for an herbal cup of tea. The food portions have also been reduced tremendously, however, you can order as many servings as you desire. I feel that this is a blessing in disguise to help cruisers maintain control of their consumptions. One night in the dining room the menu  offered  braised short ribs which I ordered, however, I receive a piece of chuck roast. They have discontinued the late night snacks and midnight buffets which I really enjoyed. The Asian and Italian restaurants both have an up charge for dinner, however, lunches are still free. The Sushi restaurant is now an additional charge. Robes are no longer in the cabins; they are provided upon request. Cleaning services are now either  offered in the mornings or evenings. You can still have both upon request only. I take cruises not to visit the ports but to rest, relax and enjoy the food. I was mostly disappointed in the quality and presentation of the food provided. I was very pleased with my  cabin steward, Lorenio and his assistant, Samart whose attentiveness and courtesies were appreciated. Additionally, my dining team, Wayan, Widana, and Prastana were awesome. I was traveling and dining with fourteen family members and they pay special attention to each of us. They were all remarkable. This was my eight cruise with Carnival and this was the first time that I was not completely satisfied with my experience.

The 1st time I ever saw the extravagant midnight buffet was on our first cruise in 2008. We have gone on a cruise every year since except 2009. Now they only offer it on what they call Journeys cruises. They are 9 or 10 days or longer. We went on a 14 day cruise last year and it had it. Some of my other cruises had a Mexican midnight buffet. In no way did it compare to the original.

if they had a midnight Buffett a year ago maybe they'll still have it for your upcoming cruise...most people on here that are saying the midnight Buffett is gone are referring to the fact that all cruises used to have a midnight Buffett. it was suspisiously made up of ingredients of that day's meals but it was good. that's great if you experienced it a year ago...I last saw it 6 years ago.

When did they get rid of the midnight buffet it was there last summer in august when we went on the sunshine and we're going again this august.

The big extravagant buffets are now only offered on cruises that are 10 days of longer. We were on a 14 day last year and had it.

Yes there have been changes, I don't care for the new American menu at all but I found other food on the Sunshine very good, loved italian rest. for lunch and Havana bar breakfasts. There have been no midnight buffets for quite some time but there are snacks of hamburger/chicken/hotdogs/chips/brownies available at night near the pizza area from 11:30 to 1:00 a.m., we hit it every night on Sunshine in May.

Lots of changes! :0 Do understand the smaller portion sizes though, reduces food waste tremendously!!

You seemed to experience the same Carnival changes that many others are expressing on this site. Changes are not always for the better.
