After spending more than 4 days of a 7 day cruise stuck on the ship it became VERY tedious. Chris the flying Scotsman’s fake accent gets really annoying (especially to someone who’s Scottish) I also don’t see why you charge PPV for movies that you also show on deck. Some free WIFI or waiving the PPV movie charge should have been done when TWO out of four ports were canceled.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
No problem, changing to the Brooklyn pier was actually better for us
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
In the main dining room (for both dinner and breakfast) understaffing caused delays. This wasn’t the staffs fault they were OBVIOUSLY working their tails off to keep us served.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The pools were closed much of the time as was the rope course (which I did once)
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Because of (the unnecessary) cancellation of our Portland stop (the weather was beautiful there that day but the decision was obviously made to save fuel by not going there and then having to sale East around a storm that was well south of us) we weren’t able to pick up new comedians therefore there were no comedy shows for half of the cruise. The “Vintage Pop” Show was well choreographed (if a bit dated)
Children's Programs
No kids with us but we did talk to some parents who complained about not having anything to do with their children
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
The waiters and stewards were wonderful. The hostess at the main dining room was very curt
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship is 20 years old and it shows (rust, peeling paint) but it was kept clean
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was actually nicer than we expected (probably because of the age of the ship) and the stewards did a fantastic job keeping it clean. My only issue was that the PA speaker in the room didn’t work
Ship tip
A tip I would like to give the operator of the cruise line is to stop printing up all those photos just so they get thrown out and start doing what many amusement parks do and have a digital account for each passenger where everyone’s photos get posted so you don’t waste all that paper and ink. I avoid getting my picture taken because of the waste but would be more likely to allow it if I could buy them online never mind the issue of having strangers staring at my photos on display for everyone to see.
Liked the harbor walk but actually stumbled onto it by accident. It would be nice if a tide chart was available so you’d know the est time to visit the reversing falls.
The captain and cruise director said it was due to bad weather but I was able to check the weather and it was beautiful. Obviously sailing that far west from St John would have meant sailing further east to go around the storm so the decision was more about saving fuel than safety. EVERYONE I spoke to knew that once Portland was canceled we weren’t going to Boston so time was never an issue
There are no signs ANYWHERE saying no cellphones leading up to customs but a female guard (?) yelled at my wife for using her phone while on line (she was trying to call our son to tell him to pick us up)
I was on this cruise and the original post is accurate. I love Carnival; I have a YouTube channel just for cruise videos, and I can say this was the worst cruise we’ve done in the past 16 years. Reading the fine print doesn’t change the fact that you never prepare for a negative experience. Still love Carnival, and we booked a cruise for 2021.
Good grief. Leave this poor person alone. Weather related or not they have a right to be disappointed from missing ports. I know I would be. Don't label them a hater. Two of you on this board seem to tear into everyone who doesn't give glowing remarks about everything. Lighten up!
