Review summary

This cruise was a sheer disaster. The forecast can easily be read 10 days in advance. They had already re-routed this cruise to a cruise that I did NOT pay for nor even want to go on. But the fact that they didn't just cancel or re-schedule this cruise is beyond me. We went 3 days at sea without being able to get off of the boat. If felt more like we were being held hostage than on a cruise. Carnival did NOTHING to make this up to us even though we didn't even bother to stop at one of the ports at all. Yes, I'm sorry, they did refund $17 each. This cruise was a waste of our money and our time. When we did port it was so rainy that there was no point in getting off of the boat. Was there no other port we could have gone to? Especially when the captain KNEW what the weather report was. Since most of us were forced on this cruise why was there not more of an effort to accommodate us? In hindsight, I should have just taken the loss of the money spent for the cruise because when you spend that many days at sea with nothing to do...you tend to spend a lot of money trying to entertain yourself. This was my 5th Carnival cruise and I'm now considering NEVER cruising with them again.

Embarkation

This process was long and tedious. Starting at the airport. I prepaid my airport transfers about 2 weeks in advance. However, when it came time to get on the van to head to the port my name was nowhere on their list. I had to go through my email just to find the receipt they sent me to prove I had already paid. I made sure to have a check in appointment and we arrived in time for our appt. Only to find out that appointments didn't really exist and there were about 1,000 people in line trying to board. To the back of the line we went. Over two hours later we were finally on board. Oh, and btw, our name was not on the transfer list to get back to the airport either.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was decent but offered very little variety. It took our waiter (you know the one in the dining room that serves you every night) about 3 nights to warm up to us...slightly. Service was cold and tense.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We did participate in bingo, clue, ping pong, karaoke, and lots of listening to music. These activities were all okay, nothing to write home about.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Entertainment was sub par at best.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
While our steward was amazing, the rest of the service staff seemed as though even they were ready for the cruise to end. Service interactions were brief and cold.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabin was not bad for an inside cabin. There was plenty of room for my husband and I and our steward kept it clean.

Ship tip

DO NOT USE THE SPA!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
Miami was nice for the brief time we were there. We were able to find a good breakfast spot from the locals and had a nice experience.

Cozumel, Mexico

Rained...didn't get to really do anything.

Belize City, Belize

1 out of 5
Not much to do here. The poverty beyond the port was so intense that it saddened me. Not really a place to port in my opinion, although I'm sure they need the tourism income.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Torrential rains. Everything closed, didn't get to do anything

George Town, Grand Cayman Did not visit port

Bad weather

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Equally terrible as embarkation. We were given times to debark based on our floors and were then sent to sit in a room for over an hour before we were actually able to begin the debarkation process. This could have meant an hour of additional sleep but no, they got us up super early and then wouldn't let us off the boat. When we were finally able to get off we were stopped by the ship staff and told to step aside because customs needed to see us. We were then escorted by "suits" in front of everyone as though we were under arrest. Then suddenly one of the border patrol staff tells our escort to "stop" and to wait for them to come back. Now we're to the side of the debarkation line while everyone gawks at us as they walk by. About 5 minutes later she returns and yells at him to let us go because it was a mistake. At this point...I just wanted to get off of the boat!

You sound like someone who is only happy when complaining. Really, it was THAT bad? I doubt it. and nothing to do in Belize city, is that a joke? Did you bother to look at the excursions you could choose? I had an absolutely BLAST in Belize. Your name wasn't on the transfer list so you actually had to open your phone and show the e-mail? WAH! WAH! WAH! What a whiner.

Please find another form of vacation. We’ve cruised In all kinds of weather and could care less where we stop. Enjoy every one!

Try a land vacation where it never rains.

Sounds like from the beginning to end was not what you expected shame when you look forward to something so much and its not what you expect .. the ships really have no control over the weather and customs snd yes some can be rude hope it does not stop u from cruising ...

Maybe try staying home!

I was going to say the same thing. It's amazing how many people complain about the cruise line for the rain. For someone who has cruised at least 5 times, should know not to book during the rainy season!!!

My advice is ....DON'T cruise during the rainy season. Also, read the fine print before signing.

You had a bad experience with embarking and you let that basically sour your attitude for the cruise. Stuff happens and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Captain just can't go to any port he wishes. There is a lot that the cruise line needs to do before they get approval for a port change. You seem like another one of those who always has a sour attitude. More than likely, you had a scowl on your face the entire time, which would explain why the staff did not want to interact with you.

The cruise line cannot control the weather. Sorry you weren’t happy but you need to make your own fun. You let the situation get the best of you and complaining helps nothing. Not porting is in the contract. There’s no reason with the clubs and shows that you couldn’t have a great time. The best part about cruising for me is the sea days. Otherwise I would just go to the island.

Actually you did pay for the ports you ended up at. Read the contract next time you book. Rain happens. If you flew to an island and it rained the whole week would you expect the airline and resort to refund your money?
