Review summary

My wife and I and my wife's sister were aboard the Carnival Splendor from June 28 to july 5, 2009. Our week long trip took us to Puerto Vallearta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. All three cities had something special to see and experience. For example in our Countryside Excursion in Puerto Vallarta we traveled by bus to several small villages in order to experience the "real" Mexico and its people. We found the people very friendly, the environment very green and wet, and the experiences of exploring the villages, their churches, food shops, etc. very interesting. We visited a tortilla factory where we were treated with a freshly made tortilla while we watched the process, took pictures and enjoyed conversing. In Mazatlan, we found the weather a little humid but the buses for the excursions were all air conditioned. We were treated to the music and dance of a special troupe in a theater with a restaurant. It was a delightful treat to rest and enjoy the music and traditional dances of Mexico. In Cabo San Lucas, we found our excursion especially delightful because our guide showed us some of the homes of American movie stars. like George Clooney, and Julia Roberts. Our guide took us to San Jose de Cabo, a nearby city that provided us with excellent food and shopping. We also stopped at a cactus factory where they have hundreds of different species of cacti! Aboard our ship, the entertainment was awesome! There were variety music shows for everyone, specific entertainment programs for adults and children at various ages in various areas. The food was terrifcally delicious with any type of food that you can think of. There were also formal dining areas if you wanted to really dress up and be treated royally. There were areas for sports, exercise, saunas, swimming pools, dance floors, and so on. The ship's personnel were exceptional in keeping the cabins clean (twice a day), providing service, and answering inquirries. There were also sales of jewelry (gold and silver) and watches. At the end of the cruise, watches were being sold for $20. That was a real bargain! Overall. this was an exciting adventure which allowed all three of us to relax and be pampered. Thank you all aboard the Splendor! We'll see you again soon!

Ports of call

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
This was a much better planned city with better buildings, streets, and oceanviews.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
This city reminded us of the united States because of its towering hotels and motels, inluding homes of the rich and famous. This city stood out as a city of the moneyed people. Some of the lots sold for $8 million or more. The buildings had their own character which showed the wealth of the owners or companies.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
We liked the countryside with its lush green vegetation and everyday people.

Pros: Wow! What a wonderful ship! The size of the ship, the different entertainment areas, the dining areas, shopping areas, swimming pools, etc. were all magnificent.

Cons: There were no cons primarily because the ship and all services and excursions were outstanding!
