Review summary

Got a late start from Miami while we waited out a storm. This turned out to be a fabulous surprise as we got to see Miami lit up at night while we sailed off. Smooth sailing the entire trip. The Spirit was clean and all the staff friendly. Really friendly bartenders and MDR servers. Good was good but not great. However, they did take excellent care of my special dietary needs. Erin the CD is energetic, fun and friendly. The showtime productions were outstanding. The piano bar was not as upbeat compared to other piano bars. The decor is beautiful on this ship. It was a wonderful ship to explore. It has 3 pool areas which spread people out across the lido and therefore, did not feel crowded. Probably, the best feature is how they've approached smoking sections. One of them is on one side of the pool areas. It made a nice place for people who do smoke to enjoy while allowing nonsmokers to not be affected. Same for casino. I could actually walk through the non-smoking section of the casino to get from point A to point B. They've really put thought into how they make their guests comfortable.

Embarkation

Super fast and efficient. The staff at the port of Miami are so very nice.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I can't complain. I did notice the servings are smaller but I'm not affected by this. They were stellar at accommodating my food allergies.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We mostly lay around sunning like lizards and drinking frozen drinks. The production shows we attended were outstanding. Erin the CD is top notch.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Like I said earlier the production shows were the best I've ever seen! A very talented group of performers.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Super friendly, fun, courteous, efficient. I can't say enough good things about the wonderful people who work hard so that we can have an amazing vacation.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Spirit is very clean. Older but well kept. I just loved this ship. So many nooks and crannies to discover and sit quietly to read a book. The three pool concept was spot on. It spread folks out and I loved having our own pool in the serenity deck. How they've approached the smoking sections should be a Carnival standard.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
I think my only qualm with our cabin is that we had two pictures. Both were nudes of very young females. Too young in my opinion. I'm fairly open minded but it felt borderline sketchy imo. The Spirit being an older ship does lack in plug ins. We had one. Literally one. We had to take turns charging our 4 devices. Everything was in working order and the room was clean.

Ship tip

If you go to Puerto Rico and want to tour the fort, take a taxi at least to the fort. It's a long, hot walk uphill. In St Kitts do NOT hold the monkey. On the ship attend at least one production show. It's worth it. Look for ducks! My sister found one!!!

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is beautiful. Walked to the fort and wished we'd taken a cab. It is a long, hot walk and too fatigued to really enjoy the fort. We found a really neat local shop that sold local art. Stopped at Barrachina's for a Pina colada.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Grand Turk is always a fabulous Beach day for us and it was perfect in every way!

Basseterre, St. Kitts

Absolutely love St. Kitts! Took a taxi to Carambola Beach club. I can't wait to go back. Next time we want to check out Nevis.

Miami, Florida

We stayed on South Beach in a hotel in Espanola Way. Culture was fun. Walked to the beach. It's clean and family friendly. Great food. Nice people.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Once again. Fast and efficient.
