Review summary

The Carnival Spirit was a great ship with lots to do. We started in San Diego (Mar. 21) and went as far south as Acupulco. The "At sea" days were very windy so there was a limited amount of things you could do outdoors. The mini golf was definately off limits! The crew were all very friendly and helpful. It was so nice to be spoiled for a week. No cooking, cleaning or even making the bed!!!!!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was good as usual but I didn't really enjoy the captain coming over the pa system to say something every night. It seemed to be an interruption to the table conversation rather than helpful information.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Great service. We traveled with 3 kids and there were extra chocolates and a happy face cookie for each of them at bedtime. The dining room staff started to remember what we usually liked...ie extra ice cream with dessert or apple juice for the kids. It was nice to feel that the service was personalized.

Cabin / Stateroom

The beds aren't very comfortable but the ship has tried to make it as good as possible with their new linens. There were nice white comforters and extra pillows in the room.

Ports of call

Acapulco, Mexico

Good shopping at this port but there were far too many people waiting for you off the ship and wouldn't let you pass without following you down the street wanting you to come to their shop.

Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa, Mexico

We went to the market and the beach at this port. Both were good. The beach we went to had parasailing and my daughter tried it. It was less expensive than many other places we have been to. The sail was about 15 minutes and $25.00

Manzanillo, Mexico

Disappointing port. There is NOTHING nearby. Taxi's are a bit pricy. We walked out of the port area and got a taxi there for about 1/2 price! Well worth the 10 minute walk.

Pros: Great relaxing and sight seeing.

Cons: Dining room interruptions

Recommends Carnival Spirit? No.
