Review summary

A lot of time on the boat - rough seas and didn't learn much about the Panama Canal.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
extremely easy - no trouble at all

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food wasn't up to the standard I remember from previous cruises on Carnival and other lines. No free room service anymore. Guy's burgers were what we ate the most - so good!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Too many games of trivia and nothing else - we spent several days on board because the Costa Rica port was cancelled - I didn't even know a port could be cancelled! Was hoping for more fun activities including learning about the Panama Canal - the pilot talked a little but it was basic. Would have liked to know why the US build the canal - who owns it now - how it works etc.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Musical numbers good but no dancing allowed because of rough seas. Chris Willey was a great comedian - the others just so so. One actually made embarrassing an 11 yr. old boy in the audience his act - it was mean.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone extremely friendly, professional and helpful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Mostly clean except the base of pillars in the elevator areas

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Size and cleanliness were fine Unhappy because the temperature was freezing - called three times and nothing changed. A very unpleasant part of the trip - had to be out of the cabin - wrapped in a blanket or on the balcony.

Ship tip

Don't buy the Carnival transfers from ship to airport. They cost $25.99 - right outside the door are shuttles for $10.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

3 out of 5

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica Did not visit port

ship could not dock, so we didn't stop

Panama Canal (Cruise Into Canal)

4 out of 5
very interesting, Too much time though just hanging around the lake after entry. Another ship there had water shuttles to land. Since we didn't stop in Costa Rica is was a long time to do nothing

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Went on a non Carnival excursion and it was great. Area around the dock was o.k.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Super easy and got to airport in plenty of time.

Did Panama Canal on the Island Princess. It was great, lectures daily about the history. Ports can be cancelled for weather and other issues.

I’m guessing, different cruise lines, provide different experiences when you go through the canal, I’m sorry yours wasn’t what you were expecting.
