Review summary

An excellent honeymoon, and a wonderful experience for both of us. My husband had never been on a cruise and was skeptical, and both he (a very active person) and I (very relaxed) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
So darn easy. We made an appointment time, and were about 20 minutes early. It was not a problem, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had an excellent boarding experience, to the point where my husband looked at me, and said, "That''s it? That''s all we have to do?" and it was!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Our dining room experience was great! We (party of two) were placed at a table for six, so we got to know one other couple, and had drop-ins intermittently. I would have preferred to have been able to have our own table, but it also allowed us to chat with other people during the week, when most of our time was spent just the two of us. We did pay extra for the Chef''s Table experience, and it was worth every single penny. My husband and I both agreed that it was one of the coolest things we''d ever done, and the food was out of this world. Absolutely mouthwatering from beginning to end.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We didn''t do too many activities, but the ones we did that stood out were the Dive-In movie and trivia. The Dive-In movie was excellent, aside from the popcorn machine having issues. Popcorn is a favorite of mine, and one of the bartenders overseeing the popcorn machine seemed very apathetic when I''d asked to get some, and he''d said he didn''t know if there was more, and didn''t seem to be very helpful with providing a suggestion as to where to get some. On the second night we did the Dive-In movie, this was not the case, and the popcorn was handed out to all the attendees to enjoy during their movie. Trivia was pretty standard - but enjoyable.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The ship''s shows on the Main Stage were good. Pretty standard for what you''d expect to see. Our FAVORITE performers were D''Amour! They were a string trio that played numerous covers of famous songs, and were such a joy to listen to and watch! We actively listened for them each night when we were walking through the promenade and after dinner so we could find where they''d rotated to. Excellent performers, so talented and enjoyable to watch!

Children's Programs

Cause we''re in our 30s.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Fantastic staff! Our steward, Ro, was the friendliest of all our Carnival staff, and made excellent towel animals. We wanted to keep them all throughout the week and end up with a menagerie, but I think that is probably towel hoarding. Staff overall were fantastic! Notably, my husband came down with some kind of (pre-COVID) bug, and was quarantined in his cabin for one day until the symptoms had passed. The medical team was timely, knowledgeable and efficient. The customer service team was very kind in understanding that it was a disappointment for him to be in-cabin for 24 hours (they deactivated his Sign & Sail card, so there''s not much he could have done during his quarantine even if he broke it). They communicated with us clearly and in a timely manner, specifically pertaining to the quarantine, and the customer service at the dining rooms were very understanding when I''d gone to get food for the both of us to bring back to the cabin.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The design was straightforward. I do wish that the Serenity adults-only area wasn''t positioned right by the kids water slide, as it seems to somewhat defeat the purpose. Also, our room didn''t have bedbugs, but there was definitely something that was in the bedding that made me itchy, and I woke up with red welts (so maybe there were bedbugs, but I never saw anything when inspecting the sheets). I''d requested to have all new bedding halfway through our trip, and then it was fine.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our suite had an obstructed ocean view window. It was really nice to have such a large window, and we''d selected the cabin that was right between the two lifeboats, so we had a pretty clear view of the ocean. We did have workers outside our window a few times, and there was rust and salt spray on the exterior of the window, but it didn''t prevent us from seeing anything. Our cabin was very clean, aside from some issue with our bedding. I don''t believe it was bed bugs, but I was definitely itchy and had red welts for the first few nights until all of the bedding was replaced.

Ship tip

Prepare for kitschy, prepare for dated, but prepare to have an excellent time! The Pride had everything that I love about cruising, and was casual during the day and (on the specific nights) elegant and glamorous. We often look back and comment on how amazing our honeymoon was, and we are so thankful to have gotten to experience the Carnival Pride!

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

4 out of 5
It's nothing fancy, it's Baltimore. Embarkation was very efficient, and the staff very friendly, however.

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
Absolutely beautiful! Probably our favorite day, just picturesque! The Carnival staff even brought lunch to the beach for us - the best jerk chicken I've had.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
It was neat to see a different history, but the city was underwhelming. Good for souvenirs.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

3 out of 5
If you've been to Freeport, you get it. It's just a circle of souvenir shops, a couple bars, and some fruit stands in what is basically a large parking lot in an industrial part of the island. We got off for a couple hours, did some more shopping and got a drink at a bar, but we ended up going back on board early and taking a nap instead.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was as good as you can expect debarkation to go. It was easy to get all of our baggage handled, and we were able to get a good seat to wait out the debarkation process. I think next time we may get the option to get off sooner.
