Review summary

On the last day of cruise there was a 90.00 charge put on the account per person. This was gurtilry for service to rooms. Dining room and cleaning people. This was very surprising to me. This should be a charge that is included in the price of the cruise. I had all finances in order and did not like the surprise charges.

As for me, I use my onboard credits to cover some of it. Since the crew are poorly paid I gladly pay gratuities. I also tip some of the crew I come into contact with.

I’m surprised 😮 no one told you. It was in the paperwork that you had to print out.

And, unless things have changed the gratuities are added like the 2nd day, not the last.

When I booked my cruise I was asked if I wanted to pay my gratuities up front.

Panda3    6 years ago

You didn’t pay in advance...

albaneseca    6 years ago

You have the choice to prepay -- your TA or PVP should have asked you at booking.

It’s easy to miss stuff when you book, I suppose. We always pay it when we book. One less thing to think about. Next time, just ask if you’re using an agent, or scan the webpage and pay it there. I hope the rest of the cruise was fun.

If you profile is up to date this was your first cruise. All except boutique lines sailing from homeports outside of the USA (Crystal, Seabourn, Azamara, etc.) all have daily automated hotels /restaurant service gratuities. These range from $13/person per day on Carnival to $23/person per day in Suites on Oceania. It was disclosed to you at the very least in your cruise contract that you esignatured when doing your online check-in if self booked direct w/ Carnival. Otherwise it all on the travel professional or website that sold you the cruise.

There's no surprises or you didn't do your homework, try reading your cruise contract also next time you cruise expect a gratuity charge.

These charges are explained in T&C. Did you read them. You could of pre paid them

wl1962    6 years ago

very clearly stated that gratuitues are addex. although i dont think a mandatory gratuity is a gratuity it is clearly stated

I like to pre pay my gratuities online before the cruise. I just keep a stack of ones for room service & other extra tipping.
