Will not be taking another Carnival cruise out of Baltimore any time soon. For 1st timers, this would be a good first experience.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
The ship was very late arriving into Baltimore (rough seas). It arrived at 4:00 pm and we weren't allowed to arrive until 6:00 pm. The traffic was at a grid lock and it took us till 7:00 pm to get to the port even though we were right around the corner from the port. Despite the traffic, the embarkation was still very good. The ship did not depart Baltimore until 11:00 pm.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
We chose to eat at the early dining. Our waiters were the best. The food selection was good, but we felt that the food was just average. The buffet was also just okay. Nothing to rave about.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The Q & A was really interesting. We enjoyed playing bingo but the price of the cards was extremely high. The weather did not cooperate for us to enjoy the pool.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Most of the shows in the evening were good but only 1/2 hour. We remember the shows being at least 1 hour and more involved. The cruise director Leigh was great. One show was really "corny".
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our waiters were excellent and so was the room stewards.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Most of the layout was great except for the casino. You had to walk through the casino to get to the auditorium where the show were and smoking is allowed in the casino. My sister and I feel like smoking in the casino should be banned. We had to cover our noses as we walked through every night to get to the shows.
Cabin / Stateroom
2 out of 5
We were in Room 8188. The cabin itself was very nice and cleaned well. The only problem is that it is located below the buffet and we heard all kinds of noises (like chairs and other things being dragged across the floors). This is definitely not a good room if you want quiet!
Ship tip
Make sure your room is not below one of the restaurants.
My excursion was cancelled due to rough seas. My sister and took a taxi ($4/pp) to Atlantis. The only thing you can do there now is visit the casino. Everything else cost $40 to get in (some of this was free the last time we visited). You can also walk to the beach but it was a distance and up a short hill to get there.
This port reminds you of the Port of Baltimore. We walked around the little shops and then headed back to the ship. Not much there unless you take a bus or cab.
You really didn't have to go through the Casino. You could have gone up or down one deck to get to the shows. The tip on not getting a room on the 8th deck below the restaurant or the pool for that matter is a very good tip.
