The itinerary was changed due to IRMA. Instead of the Caribbean we went to Canada. Halifax - nice boardwalk & waterfront at the pier. Lots of shops, eateries and restaurants at the pier and within walking distance. St. John - no shops at the pier. There's a walkable waterfront, mall and shops a few blocks up from the pier.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Baltimore is a great embarkation port. it's right off the highway and there is ground level parking available. There were a lot of priority cruisers and our line was longer than the line for regular passengers. However, once we got through that initial line and into the terminal, we set up our account, got our sail & sign cards and were on the ship within 10 minutes.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
This was the first cruise where across the board, the food & dining experience was 'okay'. We selected YTD, generally went to dinner in the MDR between 7 -8, and never had to wait for seating. The food was hit or miss...one night the 'whipped' potatoes actually had large chunks, the french onion soup was great, but the mussels were overly seasoned and 1/2 in the dish weren't open (not good). However, the lobster in MDR was actually better than what I had in the Steakhouse. The buffets had a decent variety and I liked the carving stations (lamb was the bomb!). I usually love the pizza, but even that didn't seem as good this time.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
This was a chill-out trip, so we really didn't do many activities this time. The pool areas were well kept, loungers were available. However, that's likely because our itinerary changed and a number of people cancelled.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Didn't see an shows. There was a young man in the Piano lounge a couple of times; can't recall his name but he was absolutely fantastic. There was also a guitarist and singer in the atrium, they were good too. Didn't do any shows.
Children's Programs
no kids
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All of the staff was very friendly. Our room steward Rinaldo was great. We requested robes and service twice daily. Some days, he actually serviced 3 times, room was always clean and bucket filled with ice.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Liked the layout of the ship and it was easy to get around. The areas were clean and well kept. I must say this is the first ship we've been on where the ice cream station was always clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Standard balcony room, king bed and a sofa. It still had the old big bubble TV instead of a flat screen. Cabin was clean and the mattress was comfortable. The balcony had 2 chairs & table, much cleaner than on the Magic.
Ship tip
This ship is smaller than some of the newer ships, but there are a lot places to hang out . Take some time the first day to walk around check out the different areas...lounges, eating places, and the bars.
we had plenty of notice. We got an email and it was posted on the website as soon as they made the decision. Carnival did the right thing and we enjoyed the cruise immensly.
