Review summary

There was only two things good about my recent Carnival Pride cruise was Guy's Burger Joint and my cabin steward, Rafael.  That being said, Carnival is not what it use to be.  First off, the service has gone down hill big time.  Less staff by the pool and in the dining room.  While everyone was friendly, it took forever to get food in the dining room and when we finally got the food it was barely warm and cold within two minutes of eating and the food quality was barely mediocre.  By the pool area, they put in Guys, Blue Iguana and replace the regular bars with the Red Frog Rum Bar and the Blue Iguana Tequila Bar and all this seating for the eateries and bars.  As a result, they took away a hot tub and have less lounge chairs by the pool forcing parents with children under 21 to go to the front of the ship for more lounge chairs and a hot tub.  There was no supervision of any sort, such as warning children not to jump in the pool or use the one hot tube as a pool.  This was especially frustrating because parents felt the did not need to be parents and let their children do whatever they wanted as long as they did not bother them.  It was a terrible time at the pool and I can be glad that we only had two sea day.  If you had children over 21 or you were traveling with no kids, they created this nice area called serenity that filled up so fast, you could never get a lounger or a chair.  You could also go up to the sun deck where they had the most loungers, but you were not near the pool if you became hot.  The entertainment was so-so, the comedians were pretty good, but the New Year's Eve party was kind of okay.  The DJ was good but the band was hit or miss depending on what song they were playing and the champagne they handed (for free) was so disgusting I don't know how anyone could drink it.  The waiters were also handing out the champagne to kids under the drinking age of 21, not good.  I have been on Carnival in the best and always enjoyed it, but not this time.  I paid a premium for my cruise plus airfare and insurance, so not worth the money.  I could have gone to a first class resort in the Caribbean or a certain amusement complex in Florida for what I paid for this cruise.  Don't know if I will go on Carnival again.  So very disappointed.  If this is how Carnival is now, I don't know how they are the worlds leading cruise line.  Just not what it use to be.:(

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food quality was mediocre. Food never hot (except for soup, coffee/tea) warm at best and cold within 2 minutes of eating. Dining choices were blah.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Mini golf was fun, as was ping pong, when we could play. Pools need more hot tubs and loungers,

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Comedians were good, DJ not bad, but band was so-so. Shows ok.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Cabin steward, Rafael on deck six was awesome. Great guy always greeted me by name and kept cabin very well.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Ship just had a 2.0 make-over, they should have made it a 10.0. Ship vibrated all the time. While ship clean, was definitely looking worn. Balconies need some work. Our balcony constantly dipped down like it was going to collapse. Needs to overhaul this ship big time.

Cabin / Stateroom

Balcony needs to be fixed, constantly dipped down when you stood near the railing, needless to say, we did not lean on the railing as we were afraid it would collapse on us. Bathroom was peeling in shower and on floor. Needs an overhaul too. Air conditioning would cut out in the middle of the night. They came by to fix it, but it was working at the time so they said nothing was wrong. Well there was, and they were wrong.

Ship tip

My tip would be to sail on another cruise line because Carnival is not what it used to be. Not a good value for the money.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

3 out of 5
A little chaotic as the ship was late coming in and we had to waste time before we could get to the ship.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Loved going to the beach three miles from the ship. Had to leave the port otherwise you were stuck with the port shops which were a little pricey. Went to the bar area and enjoyed the beach and all the stalls and shops.

Belize City, Belize

3 out of 5
City has no history or culture and the Mayan ruins we went to we did not have enough time to enjoy them fully.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

3 out of 5
Only went to port beach as we were tired on NYD. Overpriced and kind of reminded me of spring break.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Was beautiful from what we could see. Because of the length of the tenders to get off, we were not able to go to the beach and do our tacky pirate encounter (overpriced and not recommended) so we did not do much more than look around the port and the block past it so I am not sure how great Grand Cayman is.
