Review summary

I am actually thinking about cruising with another cruise line to compare with carnival. The quality has gone down and is no longer all inclusive. Seems like a money pit.

Embarkation

Very Long and Unorganized

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Dining in main dining room was very poor quality of food. I have been on 4 cruises with carnival and main dining was very good. The service and food quality is so bad we were almost forced to pay more for specialty dining. Guys Burgers were the best free food on this ship. We had a very nice Dinner a Fahrenheit 555 but paid for it. Buffet was typical buffet food but it was so overcrowded you could not get the food unless you were almost rude which many people were. We tried free lunch a Cucina del Capitano it was the absolute worst service on this ship…. The staff in this restaurant treated us terribly, they actually threw three bowls of ceasar salads in the middle of our table of 5, and walked away. We all ordered the same salad and that is all we got. Not a good experience, so disappointing. Bar service at Pig & Anchor was not friendly and they also acted like they did not want to be there?

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Main pool was very small. Water works slides and activities were great for the kids. They loved it. Skyryde was fun. Par core coarse was fun for kids. The mini golf had too many other thing around it so it was very cramped along with corn hole . Skyzone was extra so we did not pay for it.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We liked a couple of the main shows but the final show was not very good. Many people were walking out of it.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
The free children programs were great.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Our room Steward was not happy… he barely spoke to us. Our captain also rarely spoke to us???? I heard him 3 times in 8 days. Pig & Anchor Bar Servers were rude and very unhappy. Cucina Del Capitano restaurant lunch staff were the absolute rudest on the ship. It was a miserable lunch we had in that restaurant. Pizza kitchen staff were also not friendly. The specialty coffee barista(Main) was very slow and did not know much, she also had no help the 3 times we visited this coffee shop, she was as kind and we felt bad for her. Main dinning was very slow and not friendly. My past main dinning on Carnival cruises has been fantastic, I’m not sure why the change in friendliness and quality of food?

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Cleanliness was great in common areas. Loved the Lani Deck. The area with free kids games, there was way too many outdoor games shoved into one area… no elbow room to maneuver around. I don’t feel you should have to pay for skyzone. Main atrium is not impressive. I think they are trying to utilize more space for specialty dining and therefore it has taken away from the grand atrium.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
It was a bit cramped. Asked for king set up got two singles. Our steward kept it very clean.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

1 out of 5
The embarkation process was the slowest and most unorganized I have ever experienced. Even with faster to the fun.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

2 out of 5
Cabo was very pricey and sales people were too pushy. Our Whale watching tour was great though.

La Paz, Mexico

1 out of 5
This was an excursion that we booked months before our cruise. It was cancelled and we were not notified ahead of time. We wanted to be called and they told us it had been cancelled. We could not book another tour because they did not notify us in time. They did nothing to make this right. Carnival, shame on you.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
Booked the all inclusive beach resort with lunch. We loved everything about this tour. Food was better than the ship. Deserts were so good.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

4 out of 5
Did rainforest horseback ride with dinner. It was a long drive to get there. Beautiful ride wish they would have stopped a few times for photos. Dinner was good. Ribs were great.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Disembark was better than embark but we went down early and he had us line up our luggage in first come first off boat order. We were second off the boat until they decided to have us exit another way and then we were in the back of the line.

Most cruise lines are up charging for what was free before Covid. But cruising is still a great time you just need to be aware.

What other Carnival cruise ships have you been on before? I've been on the Panorama 3 times in the last 18 months and I will be back on the Panorama in May. I never ever had a bad service! Even though I was in the Havana Experience twice and regular balcony! I was curious which carnival ships you have been on? Cheers!

Try Virgin Voyages. Loved my sailing on Scarlet Lady last week I’ve done Carnival and RC in the past I think I’ll stick to Virgin and RC from now on

I haven't done a Carnival cruise but, I read on many reviews that food is not stellar. Unfortunately, the nickel and dime game happens with most of the cruise lines these days. Sorry to hear this cruise experience wasn't great. Hopefully your next cruise will be better.

Hope you find a cruise line that you’ll be happy with.

Sad to hear your experience. I've often thought back to my first couple of cruises where you were almost afraid to say you didn't like a meal or dessert and the staff would go out their way to get you to 'happy' before you left their care. Bringing other dishes or multiple desserts were just common. It still happens but less and less. Hope you find a line with crews that make the most of your cruise experience.

Good luck, let us know how that goes. Seems to be the same with all lines. After losing billions and now having strong demand they have pricing power.

The mass market cruise lines have never been all inclusive, just the luxury lines.
