Review summary

The cruise was significantly impacted by Hurricane Kay. We were denied the ability to visit the primary port stop (Puerta Vallarta) and denied the ability to visit the substituted port stop as well. (Ensenada) (I can understand the first, I do not understand or accept the stated reason for the second) It rained constantly for two full days as well. I understand that Carnival can not control the weather.

Embarkation

Standing in line for two hours to board is not a good way to start a vacation. The half hour time slots were meaningless. Even though all paperwork was completed in advance, there has got to be a better way to board. got to be a better way

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Ships main dining room food and service was excellent. Service was particularly outstanding. Dinner in the Steakhouse Restaurant was very disappointing. Tables were packed in side by side like in the main dining room so there was no intimacy or privacy. One would expect white tablecloths at least instead of Formica tables. Service and food was no better than the main dining room. Not worth the added cost. Would not spend the extra money again. The Chinese Restaurant was very good. Food was very authentic. A good value for the added cost. Ate there twice. The Carnival HUB app to reserve a table in the main dining room did not work half of the time. It would always say "less than a 10 minute wait" no matter how long the wait turned out to be. Sometimes over 20 minutes. Sometimes no table number would come up at all so you had to manually re-register at the desk.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Too many people to be enjoyable. Overwhelmed the facilities.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The four evening shows in the main theater were all outstanding, particularly the String Concert. The LED background screen with its vivid and ever changing visuals added immensely to the quality of the productions.

Children's Programs

Have no children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. Service overall was excellent.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship's layout and design was excellent. Particularly liked the computerized elevator system that designated the most efficient cab and shortened the wait. Cleanliness was excellent. Every time you turned around someone was cleaning and wiping down the surfaces of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was what I expected. It had more than ample closet space. The coffee table was a nuisance and in the way but was easy to store under the counter out of the way. Cabin was very clean and comfortable.

Ship tip

Pick a smaller ship with less than 4,000 people.

Ports of call

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Did not visit port

We were not able to stop in Puerto Vallarta due to Hurricane Kay. It was to be the highlight of the trip, but I understand and accept why.

Mazatlan, Mexico

Scheduled visit times were changed so we had to cancel a booked shore excursion. Instead of leaving at 10:00 the time was moved to 8:00. I am not going to set an alarm and get up at 6:30 while on vacation for a bus ride into the mountains.

It was explained well in advance and went well as scheduled. We were off within 10 minutes of the time were were expecting as we were told the night before.d
