Review summary

I have always wanted to do this cruise. Originally when I booked the cruise it was to embark from San Diego. However, due to some logistic restraints (I believe Covid related), it was moved to Long Beach. Carnival shortened the cruise by 1 day when they did the port change. This didn't affect the ports visited, but I do believe we had to travel faster to get to our Hawaii destinations from Long Beach and return. During choppy seas, this made for more motion in the ship. I didn't have a problem with this, but I know some of the passengers did. Since this was their 50th Anniversary sailing, we did a meet up with another of the Carnival ships in Ensenada. Overall, I would really recommend this cruise to anyone that likes to sail.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was made easy by Carnival providing a Covid test to each passenger before they were allowed to sail.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Excellent food in all of the restaurants with a variety of menus.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Jacuzzis were well maintained, however the pools were somewhat questionable. I don't know if they may have been having problems at the time. The steam room and sauna were great and also free to use on this ship. It had a well-equipped fitness center.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great stage shows and a wonderful array of comedians. Carnival went all out for the 50th Anniversary Celebration

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
What can I say - these hard working people make the cruise. Without their dedication there would not be a cruise.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I really like this ship because you could easily get from one location to another without having to avoid certain decks in order to get to a restaurant or lounge.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I usually decide to stay on upper floors, however, I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet and roomy by inside stateroom was and how easily it was to get to any of the decks.

Ship tip

If you are experience motion sickness, instead of using a patch or pill try getting a sea band - it really works.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

5 out of 5
Best port for sailing from SoCal - easily accessible, clean and spacious.

Honolulu, Oahu

5 out of 5
You easily enter the city from the pier.

Kahului, Maui

5 out of 5
Took the road to Hana - amazing! You definitely need to get a taxi or Uber or tour in this location to get out of the port in order to visit the area.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Tender location - drops you off right into the town.

Hilo, Hawaii

5 out of 5
A good location for a tour - not a great port to try to walk out of. Since all the tours to Hawaii Volcano National Park were already booked on the ship, we chose to book our tour with Shipmate. Best tour possible. Great transportation and tour guide, Edmond, did an outstanding job of showing us the sites of the city and national park.

Ensenada, Mexico

4 out of 5
Central location made it easily accessible to downtown. However on this trip there were time limitations - only 4 hours, which was OK with us.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
They have made this so easy now with walk-off with luggage and with facial scanning.
