Review summary

All in all, we had a great time! This is a great way to see Mexico without having to do any planning. There is plenty to do, both on and off the ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
As suite guests, we got to skip the lines and board the ship very quickly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Brunch served on “at sea” days in the main dining room is NOT to be missed! It was by far, our favorite meal. Everything was excellent. We ate in the dining room on most nights for dinner. The majority of the meals were good, but not great. Most of the buffet food was good too! Especially the late night fiesta buffet! We did the “Cheers” drink package - totally worth it!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the “Serenity” adults only pool and spent most of our time there. It has its own bar and usually live music is played. No screaming kids running around is a major plus. There is a good amount of stuff to do on the ship, but we found ourselves a little bored on our third day at sea.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The shows on the ship were pretty good. We went to a couple comedy shows - one was funny, one was not. The Love and Marriage show and the Gender show were hilarious. The Liars club show was a bust. The 80’s party and the Halloween party were so much fun! Our cruise director Lee was fantastic.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Service is definitely lacking on this ship. Our room steward was pretty good, however, our dining room waiters were not so great. Several errors in our orders were made and the waiters seemed annoyed when we addressed the issue and asked for something new. I’ve been on several other cruises and this is an area where the Carnival Miracle could definitely improve.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is older and could definitely use a facelift. It’s not in bad shape, but it’s not in great shape either. Things appear to be relatively clean, but with a closer look, not so much. Also, the location of the main dining room is odd. It’s on deck 2 right above the engine - talk about loud! Some nights we were really swaying at our tables too.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This was one of our favorite parts of the cruise. It was so nice to have a spacious room (for a cruise) with a big balcony and a view of the ocean. On sea days, it was a nice getaway from the crowds and on days at port, it was great to get a view of the port before disembarking. Only complaint, it could have been cleaned better.

Ship tip

This cruise is great for people of all ages.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

We’ve been to LA many times. All we did was embark and disembark the ship here.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
This is a tender port - so you take a little boat from the ship to get to land. I loved that the shops, restaurants and bars are right there - so it’s a cute, safe area to walk around, with plenty to do. We did the Santa Maria/Chileno Bay eco snorkeling excursion. They take you to the famous arch and then to two spots for snorkeling. Seeing the Arch/Lands end is a must! So pretty! I would’ve liked more time there. The snorkeling was pretty good! One area was like being in an aquarium! Plus we got to sit on a beach for a few minutes!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
This area is so beautiful! Tall mountains covered in jungle! The port itself is not great for walking around, like Cabo is... its a real port. Our excursion was fantastic! We did the Sea Safari adventure. You take a speed boat to a small fishing village, where we went horseback riding through the jungle to a waterfall. You could swim in the waterfall. Then we rode the horses back and got back on the speed boat and went to another area to snorkel. Then we got back on the boat and went to another small fishing village, where we had a delicious buffet and drinks on the beach and got to lay out on the sand for a while. The scenery was beautiful in each spot and our guide was funny and very informative

Disembarkation

Our disembarkation it was not as quick as our embarkation, but all in all, no issues.
