Review summary

Ships crew were all very friendly and made every effort to see to it that you had a good time. I interacted personally with Cruise Director Adam, comedy club manager Haley J and "fun team" member April and found each of them to be extremely friendly, helpful and intent on the passengers having a good time.

Embarkation

Quick with no issues. The fact that you can do most things on-line before you arrive certainly helps the process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
I enjoyed dinner in the main dining room nightly and that experience was pretty good. However, it seemed to me that the buffet was serving the same food everyday. I also thought the breakfast hours for the buffet were too short. They stopped serving it at 0930 and didn't put out lunch till noon. So if you woke up at 10 or 10:30, (and who doesn't when you're on vacation and have been up late watching comedy shows), you're pretty much gonna starve till noon.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I enjoyed the shipboard entertainment. I brought my 17 year old granddaughter along. It was her graduation present from me. I had registered her to use the teen nightclub, C02. Every time we went to the club to see if she wanted to go in it was closed. These were the late evening hours when the only other entertainment on the ship was the comedian. The late night, (after late dinner seating), comedy shows did not allow under 18 years old for their rated R show. Something I thought was ridiculous given that 17 year olds can see R rated movies with parental consent. I think if it was ok with me for her to see the show it shouldn't matter to Carnival. So basically, after dinner at about 9:30 each evening she had nothing to do with the exception of the one night when there was a party on deck that she enjoyed. We also enjoyed Bingo several times although it was quite expensive to play just 3 games.

Entertainment

I did enjoy the stage shows as did my 17 year old granddaughter.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
If you consider the "teenage nightclub" C02 a kids club the the hours it's open need to be adjusted.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our steward and wait staff did a pretty good job. However, I feel like they may have been required to do too much and that caused the "personal service" to be lacking. In previous cruises we had a steward tend to the cabin twice a day. Now it's only once which means dirty towels, dishes etc will be in an already cramped cabin for many hours. Also, if you chose to have him come in the evening rather than mornings, you'll not have clean towels for a shower before dinner. As for the wait staff in the dining room, they were very friendly and tried hard to accommodate but had numerous tables to deal with. Therefore service like I experienced in the past like the waiter knowing your name and remembering to bring you favorite dinner beverage did not happen.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Beautiful ship. Easy to traverse. However, I don't think much if the way the buffet is laid out. Used to be it was a long "bar" which you could access from either side and all the choices were right there. Now you have to walk all around the area to check out what's being served at each "corner" then go get in line for whatever it was at each "station" that you thought you might like to eat.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin as clean and our location was close to the elevators which was handy. However it was very small, especially for 3 people. Also, it was right over someplace where allot of drilling and hammering and general "fix it" noise went on especially during the morning hours. Many mornings we woke up to what sounded like a construction sight!

Ship tip

Don't take an older teen and expect them to have much to do. My 17 year old granddaughter said she wish we'd have waited 4 more months till she was 18 to go so that she could have enjoyed more of the scheduled entertainment.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

5 out of 5
Easy access to the shop. Plenty of secured parking to leave your car.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Got off the shop but found it very hard to find the "promised" transportation into the shops. Many "pressure" salesmen to take their taxis.

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
Shopping was close enough to accomplish without traveling into town.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
Enjoyed this port the most. Took a taxi to the beach where we enjoyed an umbrella and lounge chairs and a refreshing drink. Then walked through the many shops downtown. At a ore-determined time the taxi dinner returned and took on a short tour of the downtown area pointing out interesting historical sites.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very organized and faster then we expected. Waiting areas were comfortable and directions were clear and easy to follow.
