I would say don't make the decision based on the free wine. Its absolutely horrible wine. however, the first night is the best night to go because the MDR is often a cluster on the first night with inexperienced cruisers and overwhelmed staff. I have learned to always use some kind of specialty restaurant on the first night. You'll miss the sweet and sour shrimp...which is great..but you can grab some on the buffet.

@CiciLove992...maybe ship dependent. We last cruised Oct through Nov ,22 (Legend) & the lobster was on the first Elegant Night menu. This was also true of our sailings in Aug & Sept. (Magic). Since the restart our 5 cruises on Royal have had Lobster night moved to the second Dress Your Best night.

@maryred Lobster night in the MDR is now the 2nd elegant night. They changed it a while back. @OP If it's a special occasion, you might still get a free bottle any night. We had dinner in the steakhouse on our anniversary in November and still got a free bottle of wine. It was not the 1st night or a formal night.

You can get a free bottle of wine on the first two nights of the cruise at the Steakhouse.

@maryred, my last cruise was March of 2023.

Generally only offered on embarkation night. Some longer voyages will extend the free house wine offer to the first Elegant Evening (the night with the MDR included lobster tail entree).
