Review summary

We liked Carnival Magic. Our room and the staff in the dining room help boost our opinions of this ship. The ship was a good size but did not always make sense. Utilize the maps and download the app.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
There were no issues at embarkation. The directions were clear and it did not take us long to get on the ship. Our room was immediately available so we did not have to tote around our carryon bags before getting lunch.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We did not have any type of drink package and did not need one. Meals in the main dining room... for dinner, it was great. Service was prompt and accurate. We were surprised by the staff on our anniversary with a free slice of cake and the dining room staff singing to us. Sea day brunch the great for the first day and greasy/nasty the last sea day. I ordered the same thing both days so it was easy to see the difference and feel the disappointment on the second sea day. The food on the buffet in Lido was gross. It was cold, under or over cooked. The desserts in Lido were great though. The Mongolia Wok was tasty. Guy Burgers and the Blue Iguana were also delicious. Do try a breakfast burrito at Blue Iguana. The pizza was good. There was only one fountain serving the strawberry ice cream. The other three had chocolate and vanilla.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Finding a hot tub free of children was a chore. These are not mini swimming pools. UGH! The aft pool on the Lido deck was less crowded. We did tour the spa area. It was nice.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The shows were entertaining. The comedians were terrible. I don't mind rated X. However, the comedians seems to focus on X rated jokes.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
My room steward, I Putu was great. He was attentive and cleaned our room regularly. He responded to our requests. The waiters in the main dining room were wonderful. The cruise director kept us entertained.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was mostly clean. The layout was a little confusing. Even the Lido Marketplace was designed differently from any cruise that I have been on previously.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The size of the room was no issue. Like most cruise rooms, the bathroom was small.

Ship tip

If you get on the ship early enough for lunch, immediately go to the Mongolian Wok! It was the only time we did not see a LONG line.

Ports of call

Norfolk, Virginia

5 out of 5
No excursion. Norfolk was nicely organize to embarkation and disembarkation.

Nassau, Bahamas

2 out of 5
No excursion. I really don't like this port with the locals regularly begging/harassing people.

Bimini, Bahamas

5 out of 5
If you go to this port, the beach on the right, just past the walkable bring (skip the tram) is FREE! Bring a big beach towel and skip the chair/umbrellas that cost like $50. Fill up a Yeti type cup to have drinks.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

4 out of 5
No excursions. We shopped a little at this port.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was easy to disembark as we took our suitcases off of the ship. We could not get on the elevators so we walked down the stairs to get off of the ship
