Carnival Magic

5 Night Eastern Caribbean (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: September 27, 2021

Ship: Carnival Magic

Cabin type: Inside

Cabin number: 1418

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

My wife and I are in our 70's and both have difficulty walking. We were in a forward cabin, and should have booked a midship room so as to avoid the necessity of frequently needing to walk from one end of the ship to the other. This was especially annoying when we had to navigate around the galley (either go up or down one floor, then back up or down to continue walking to our destination).

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Slower than my previous 3 Carnival cruises

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All food and eating areas/facilities were excellent

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Bingo and casino very good

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Especially enjoyed the Magic Band

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Gary the cruise director did an excellent job. Our cabin steward, Joquim also was excellent.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The Magic was the most difficult of the 4 Carnival ships I've cruised on. Having to navigate around the midship galley to traverse to either end of the ship was annoying.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The refrigerator didn't work, the TV was stuck on one channel (couldn't be changed), and the 220 volt outlet didn't work. Our cabin steward and the service desk fixed the problems. But they shouldn't have existed in the first place.

Ship tip

Try to get a midship cabin.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

4 out of 5
Typical Carnival port. Nothing special.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
We (my wife and I) didn't participate in any excursions. The shops were good.

Bimini, Bahamas

3 out of 5
We (my wife and I) didn't participate in any excursions. The few shops were good.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
All went smoothly.

I agree about the deck plan. It made little sense. I was also in 11 fwd and it was insane to get around.

Another reviewer who did not think of the consequences of booking where they did. As far as the 220v, more countries use the 220-240v system than the 110-120v system. Have to assume this was not a person from the US doing the review since they want to hide what country they are from but wanted 220v.

Can’t think of anything allowed on the ship in a cabin that would use 220 V. Maybe that’s why it didn’t work.

They need people movers like the airport. We have been fore, aft and mid and anywhere we wanted to go is always as far away as possible from where we were. Always.

What were you using the 220V outlet for? 🤔

Thanks for sharing your review. I have back and knee issues and we always do midship for that reason. Glad you still had a great time.

Thank you for your review. We will be on the Magic next August and have a mid-ship stateroom.
