Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food on the lido was typical breakfast lunch and dinner options. First time having the Italian restaurant and the Mongolian wok both were pretty tasty! Guys burgers never disappoints! Main dining room was great. Love it when they have escargot under the rare finds!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Pools and hot tubs were typical cruise ship love them or hate them, that then or leave them...up to you.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Shows, shops and casino were all great.

Children's Programs

Our only kids have 4 legs and we haven’t figured out how to include them on our cruises just yet :)

Service and Staff

We always choose “your time dining”, which has been awesome for us in the past. When on vacation, we don’t like schedules, we want to eat when we want to eat and we want to sleep when we want to sleep. This was our first cruise where we had to check in to “your time dining” via the hub app and request a table. We did not like this idea for a few reasons. First, when we checked in the first day we were sent to a table...with people already dining at it. So we were directed to a different table with people already dining. We stood in the middle of the dinning room few a few mins and were finally seated at a nearby open table. Secondly, we like to sick with our service team. We do this because once they get to know you they remember what you like and how you like it. For example, I bring a diet soda with me for dinner and ask for a cup of ice, I like a little extra butter (I’m on vacation lol) and I like a little side of peanut butter with my melting cake it’s like a hot Reese’s (don’t judge me just try it and thank me later). The first night in the dining room we were in Jose, Joy and Kewalin’s section. Now the first night was kind of hectic, everyone trying to figure out the app plus when the doors opened at 5:30 it was the biggest wave of people entering a dining room I have ever seen. I blame this on the new “check in with the Hub” feature. With that said Jose, Joy and Kewalin did a fantastic job, they were sat 5 tables at the same time and did a great job handling it. Working in the restaurant biz most of my life I know this isn’t an easy thing but Jose is a very seasoned head server. He knows what his tables need and directs his team (joy and Kewalin) very well. Remember we are on vacation so we just go with the flow, the guy next to us was not so easily pleased. He complained about everything from service, lighting, food being cold and tough...I mean EVERYTHING. Anthony one of the maitre d’s did a great job handling it but you can’t be rational with irrational people! We sat in Jose’s team section every night. This was not easy with the new app but as I was leaving the first night I recognized Jona who we met on the Paradise last year. She was standing out front basically trying to help people with the app to get a table. She made sure we had Jose every night. She is really fantastic!

Ship Quality

Overall the ship was kept very clean. The Magic is going into dry dock soon for a quick overhaul but didn’t at all seem outdated or run down. Simon our cruise director was fantastic!!

Cabin / Stateroom

Our room Stewart’s Rustam and Daniel were amazing!! The best Steward team we have ever had! The room was a great ocean view room and we actually had 2 bathrooms which we have never had before. One was the normal cabin bath (with a sink, shower and toilet) and the other one had a shower/tub combo and a sink (which worked very well for my fiancé and I).

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
No excursions just got on and off the ship but it was very easy and hassle free.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Zip lining and the Flying Dutchman.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Went to the Virgin Baths and it was absolutely beautiful!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Just did a little shopping and walked around. No excursion but had a great time.

Grand Turk Island Did not visit port

Only minor issue we had was being denied to disembark in Grand Turk. A lot of people made this a huge deal but like I said earlier we are very go with the flow so we made the best of it. Carnival issued a refund for port charges, taxes and any excursions that were booked on GT as well as everyone got an on board credit to their sail and sign cards. We were there last year on the Conquest and did whale watching which was absolutely amazing and I highly recommend that excursion!

Disembarkation

Easy on easy off.
